A search of this forum or Google is probably a good idea.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
At a guess Leicester might have been delayed because of the Analogue TV upgrade work

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Update:
Having been told my Ambit 100 modem couldn't cope with 10mb VM promised to send another within five working days. That new modem didn't arrive so I phoned CS again who said it "Couldn't be received" and they would send another one. That arrived four days later. It's an Ambit 256. It's now all connected and I've gone through the whole set-up process but still only getting speeds of 3.3mb max. Anyone know if Nottingham 3 UBR is massively oversubscribed or anything or does the 10mb take a while to cut in?
Just as an aside it seems that the first replacement modem probably never arrived as UPS wanted someone to accept it. Handily the second one was dropped off with my next door neighbours who kindly looked after it for the day while I was at work (despite the fact that I barely know them). How is anyone who works full-time and lives on his own ever supposed to be around to receive a package delivered on an unspecified weekday during the working day? I asked originally if it could be sent to my work address but VM said they couldn't do that. Just seems a bit archaic in this age of increasing numbers of people living on their own.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Almost exactly the same thing happened to me reagarding the spped pf the new modem.. I couldn't get it to work at any speed, so after a couple of hours on the phone with them, I gave up and went back to my old modem, and now getting around 5mb. Have to be satisfied with that, I suppose.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
On the advice of the geek that supplied my wireless router I speed tested the pc hard wired and got speeds of 9.8mb. So at least the issue has been pinpointed, if not yet solved - presumably a problem either with the router itself or interference on the signal.
Soz for boring you all.

Pre-registration for 2-10Mb upgrade closes 29th September
It's your last chance to be first in the queue for our 2-10Mb upgrade. We'll be closing pre-registration on the 29th of September but you can still register for the upgrade at http://www.virginmedia.com/gofaster.
We've already migrated over 1/2 a million customers to the new service and once pre-registration closes we'll begin to mass migrate the rest of our 2mb customers over to 10Mb region by region in the next few months.
All you need to do is register, we'll do the rest and we'll drop you a line once we've finshed upgrading you. You can then enjoy our up to 10Mb fibre optic broadband, recognised by Ofcom as over twice as fast as comparative up to 8Mb services from our competitors.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Ugh, sales speak. 'in the next few months' doesn't sound too optimistic for getting all of this dusted by end of October, sounds more like this will still be being done at the end of this year.
Has taken them long enough to do this so far, and according to that sales blurb above they still have ~2 million customers to move. Extracts the urine a bit that they've spent this long doing this given the fanfare though I know plenty of areas were struggling for capacity post-uplift.
I think between the 50M rollout and the capacity upgrades on the legacy network for this the engineers have had a busy summer!

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
i live in bulwell nottingham and im still on 2mb. I have rang virgin 5 times asking them to sort this out. My maximum download speed is 270kbs. It starts on really fast then drops instantly. Do you think this might be my modem? I have a black virgin modem.
Virgin are coming round next saturday, they better sort it out this time otherwise im getting rid.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Has Nottingham become eligible for the upgrade yet?
Downloads starting really fast is quite normal, then they drop to that 240kB/s or so which is appropriate for 2Mbit.
I understood Nottingham was a 'to be confirmed' area according to the most recent information posted on the website.
I do understand your frustration though, having sunshine blown up your arse for months on end about an upgrade you don't have yet will grate just a bit.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
AFAIK Bulwell comes under the Basford UBR so should be upgraded already
---------- Post added at 17:45 ---------- Previous post was at 17:44 ----------
Could be an account fault, this seems to be an issue in some ex-ntl areas of which Bulwell is one

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
All BB M modem customers in areas 01-18 (ex-telewest) should now be on 10Mbit

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
I see they've now removed the timetable page. I'm guessing Leicester will be even later now! So much for registering early!
