FIVE GO AGAINST RUN AT HAYDOCK
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Thu
Quote:
Long Run will face five rivals as he aims to make a winning return to action in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday.
Nicky Henderson's seven-year-old looked set to dominate the staying chase division for years to come after winning the King George VI Chase and the Cheltenham Gold Cup a couple of seasons ago, but last term was not so straightforward.
He had to chase home the resurgent Kauto Star at Haydock and in the King George at Kempton and while he won the Aon Chase at Newbury, he was only third when defending his Cheltenham crown.

OLOFI HAS LADBROKE AIM
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Fri
Quote:
Olofi is to be aimed at the Ladbroke at Ascot on December 22 following his victory in the Racing Post Hurdle at Cheltenham.
Trainer Tom George reports the six-year-old to have taken those exertions in his stride and is looking forward to saddling him in the valuable handicap hurdle at the Berkshire track just before Christmas.
"He's come out of it very well. He only lost three kilos, which is obviously a good sign. It didn't take an enormous amount out of him," said the Slad handler.

MEADE 'DEVASTATED' BY NATIVE DEATH
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...+death&day=Fri
Quote:
Go Native suffered a fatal injury when breaking a leg on the gallops on Friday morning, said trainer Noel Meade.
The nine-year-old was a triple Grade One winner and had looked back to his best this season following a long absence.
Meade said: "We're all in a state of shock at the moment. He was just doing a very steady canter. I was stood about 100 yards away from him and all of a sudden I heard this almighty crack and he'd somehow broken his leg above the hock."

Very saddened to hear this news.

CONTI TEAM EYEING HAYDOCK GLORY
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Fri
Quote:
Silviniaco Conti bids to put his credentials on the line when he tackles Long Run in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday.
The up-and-coming chaser has big shoes to fill following Kauto Star's retirement as he is seemingly Paul Nicholls' chief Gold Cup contender.
Nicholls told Betfair: "The one thing about him is he jumps really, really well and he stays well, which is just what you need to go to a Gold Cup. Whether we'll talk about going to the Gold Cup this season he'll tell us, but the next logical step is the Betfair Chase."

WHISKY CHASING ASCOT REDEMPTION
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sat
Quote:
Oscar Whisky bids to atone for his fall at the final flight last year as he tackles the Coral Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday.
Nicky Henderson's charge was upsides Overturn and seemed to have every chance in the two-and-a-half-mile heat when crashing out at the last hurdle, which proved the only slight disappointment in an otherwise fruitful campaign that culminated in a second Aintree Hurdle win in April.
Henderson said: "Two and a half miles is blatantly his optimum trip. He was out on his feet after Cheltenham - he was very wobbly after the race - but to beat Thousand Stars by a neck at Aintree was fantastic."

KAUTO HONOURED AT HAYDOCK
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sat
Quote:
A statue was unveiled at Haydock racecourse on Saturday morning in honour of Kauto Star.
The Paul Nicholls-trained chaser retired on October 31 after an astounding career at the highest level.
Kauto Star won the King George VI Chase at Kempton a record five occasions and the Cheltenham Gold Cup twice.
He was also successful in Haydock's Betfair Chase four times, including when he came back from the brink of retirement last season to inflict an eight-length defeat upon Long Run.

CONTI TAKES BETFAIR FOR NICHOLLS
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...2&sub=&day=Sat
Quote:
Silviniaco Conti continued his rapid progression up the ranks when outpointing Long Run in the Betfair Chase at Haydock.
Just as his Paul Nicholls-trained stablemate Kauto Star did 12 months ago, the six-year-old made all the running in the hands of Ruby Walsh.
Silviniaco Conti (7-4) jumped well throughout and had too many guns for Long Run, the 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner.
Nicholls said: "He is a really decent horse. He's only six, he jumps, he stays - he jumped brilliantly today. We had a chat before the race and I said if they go quick get a lead, if they don't then bowl along. He jumps and gallops.

CAPTAIN BACK IN CHARGE
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...2&sub=&day=Sat
Quote:
Captain Chris bounced back to form with a convincing win in the Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot as Finian's Rainbow trailed home last of the four runners.
The Philip Hobbs-trained gelding had beaten Finian's Rainbow in the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham in March 2011 but things had not gone smoothly since then, though the 7-2 shot travelled kindly in the hands of Richard Johnson as he shared pacemaking duties with Ghizao, being keen to keep to the inside given his tendency to jump to his right.

WHISKY HAS MEASURE OF ASCOT RIVALS
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sun
Quote:
Nicky Henderson was out of luck with Finian's Rainbow in the feature race at Ascot but normal service was resumed as Oscar Whisky proved in a class of his own in the Coral Hurdle.
A faller at the last when right in contention in the race last year, the 8-15 favourite was always in command under Geraghty and cruised eight lengths clear of Raya Star.
"He loved the ground, and that was a very smart performance," said Henderson.
"We thought we would go to Cheltenham next month, then Ffos Las, possibly Fontwell, miss Cheltenham and go to Aintree but if it came up soft, you'd have to run him in the Champion Hurdle."

RUSSELL GUIDES BAY TO TROYTOWN WIN
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Sun
Quote:
Tofino Bay (8-1) proved the second part of a treble a Navan double for owners Gigginstown House Stud and jockey Davy Russell when taking the Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase.
The Dessie Hughes-trained gelding was always travelling well, not far off the pace set by Glenquest and Zardsky and when he took up the running at the second-last fence it looked as though he would win comfortably.

BROWN TAKES MONKSFIELD HONOURS
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Sun
Quote:
Local trainer Noel Meade gained some small consolation for the loss of top-class performer Go Native on Friday when Busty Brown (5-1) lifted the Irish Form Book 'Monksfield' Novice Hurdle at Navan.
With visibility poor, racegoers' view of the Grade Two was restricted but when the horses came back into view they saw Paul Carberry bring Busty Brown through to lead at the final flight.

DONNA DELIVERS CUP SPOILS
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Sun
Quote:
Gentildonna survived a stewards' inquiry to see off Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe runner-up Orfevre and win the Japan Cup at Tokyo racecourse as home runners dominated the finish.
Beat Black soon built up a healthy advantage and had five lengths in hand at the top of the straight but his early efforts began to tell in the final couple of furlongs, with Ikezoe poised to challenge aboard Orfevre and when he gave the signal, the colt started to pick up and close the gap on Beat Black.
Gentildonna went with him though and finding himself a bit short of room between the two, Yasunari Iwata appeared to force his way out, bumping Orfevre in the process, but the winner of this year's Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown proved game in the finish and stuck her head out to edge out Orfevre by a nose at the line.

WALEY-COHEN EAGER FOR GEORGE RUN
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sun
Quote:
Sam Waley-Cohen is looking forward to riding Long Run again at Kempton on Boxing Day after a satisfactory reappearance in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday.
The amateur felt the outing was just what was needed ahead of the William Hill King George VI Chase.
Long Run, owned by Waley-Cohen's father Robert and trained by Nicky Henderson, had to settle for second place in the Haydock feature for the second successive season, but connections hope it has not taken as much out of him as it did 12 months ago.

FUGUE MISSES VASE DATE
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Mon
Quote:
The Fugue has been ruled out of the Hong Kong Vase later this month after suffering a minor setback.
John Gosden's filly has enjoyed an excellent three-year-old campaign, with victories in the Musidora and Nassau Stakes supplemented by fine places efforts in the Oaks at Epsom, the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Yorkshire Oaks and most recently the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
Connections had been looking forward to seeing the Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber owned filly sign off for the year in the Far East on December 9, but she will now be saved for next season.

TIDAL TOPS HENNESSY WEIGHTS
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Mon
Quote:
Tidal Bay heads the weights after 22 horses were confirmed for the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on Saturday.
The enigmatic 11-year-old ended last season with victory in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown and made a winning return back over smaller obstacles in the John Smith's Hurdle at Wetherby.
Champion trainer Paul Nicholls could also saddle Harry The Viking, who is at the other end of the weights on 10st 2lb, but stable companion Michel Le Bon is a notable defection.

SEXTET IN LINE FOR FIGHTING FIFTH
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Tue
Quote:
Last season's Champion Hurdle hero Rock On Ruby is among field of six possibles for the StanJames.com Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle on Saturday following the confirmation stage.
The seven-year-old will bid to give rookie trainer Harry Fry a major success in his first season with a licence. Fry was assistant to the horse's former handler Paul Nicholls and was responsible for Rock On Ruby when the horse took the Cheltenham crown.
Another Festival victor set for Newcastle is Countrywide Flame, winner of the Triumph Hurdle for North Yorkshire trainer John Quinn.

TUESDAY DATE FOR DETTORI CASE
http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Tue
Quote:
France Galop stewards will meet on December 4 to decide what action to take against Frankie Dettori following his positive test for a banned substance.
The medical commission of the ruling body of French racing last week imposed a temporary suspension on the Italian jockey on medical grounds, following his positive test at Longchamp on September 16.
