Like many I didn't receive any written (nor emailed) notice of this price increase. In fact the only email I had received in March which mentioned the speed increase specifically stated that there would be no change to pricing structure for the speed tiers!
So I consequently only found out on 20April when responding to a message on MyVirginMedia, I rang CS as requested and was subsequently "verbally" informed of the increase.
When I requested that the alleged "letter" be re-mailed and a "self-install" SACM (I was 2Mbps BB via STB ) SPECIFICALLY NOT TO BE SENT (as it would also likely require an engineer onsite to supply splitter and attenuate/re-tap power levels), the regrettably "inept" Indian CS rep incompetently removed my existing STB BB (DOCSIS1.1) provisioning effectively leaving me with no BB for 4weeks!.
A phone call to RETENTIONS (First time I needed to do this in 10yrs) was necessary to remedy this farce, resulting in upgrading to 10Mbps "L" along with a surprising (but welcome) price reduction and promissory 1 month re-imbursement!.
Needless to say.....I'm still waiting for the promised email/letter. ;-)

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
I received the upgrade e-mail dated 7 May 2009 and have since had the card through the post. I registered 2 weeks ago but in spite of regular modem reboots my speed remains at 2 meg and "My Virgin Media" shows me as 2 MbM. I live midway between Huddersfield and Wakefield. According to the timetable Huddersfield upgrade is available now with Wakefield following in August. In the days of NTL my area was Kirklees based in Huddersfield so I am assuming I still come under Huddersfield. My bill shows my Area Reference as 26 but I can't find a list to show what this means. Can anyone say whether I should I have got the upgrade yet?

Click on the "Connections" tab at the top of this page and it will give you your host details. Mine is :- cpc2- stre4-0-0-custXXX.bagu.cable.ntl.com which shows that Stretford is the area I would come under for any upgrade. Check your host details then look up the result in the timetable you can find here. If you are still unsure what your host details mean post them here and I am sure one of the members will be able to decipher what area you are under.

You are probably on the Heckmondwike hubsite. (Click the 'Connection' link at the top of this page. If it says 'heck' in the name, you are). No upgrade date has been published for this yet.

Thanks very much joglynne and spiderplant. Here is the result:
cpc4-heck4-0-0-custXXX.hudd.cable.ntl.com
That seems to prove that as spiderplant suggested I am on the Heckmondwike hubsite so I will just have to be patient until a date is published!

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Why do they make everything so flippin difficult?
I'm in an area that's already been updated & I received a letter just a few days ago telling me I need to arrange for a modem to take advantage of the new speed. Phone the number on the letter & they'll get it sorted asap, right? wrong!
I spent almost an hour on the phone to Virgin & spoke to 8 different people to finally find someone who could order me a nice new modem, he rang back a few minutes later to tell me he hadn't ordered the modem but had ordered an engineer to come install it instead, I hope he brings the modem with him.

Well I live in Kent & I can assure you, I did not receive any notification, either by post or E-mail regarding any increase in my bill. So its not only Bristol that was not notified.

What are you going to do then, you can cancel or phone up and complain, they are your only real options, but you are getting a free upgrade to 10Mb anyway.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
got this email this morning
Dear xxxxxx,
If you thought it was now miles quicker to upload photos online, or download a new album or two - you’d be right!
We’ve speeded up your service from up to 2Mb to up to 10Mb. Which isn’t just fast - it’s blisteringly fast! It’s all part of our plan to bring our broadband power to the people.
Wondering what that means for you?
Well, it’s now:
4 times faster to download a music track (5Mb)
Taking 5 split seconds, instead of 20 seconds.
Twice as fast to download a feature length film (1.9Gb)
Taking 1hr 12 mins, instead of 2hr 24mins
Overall your service is 2 times faster than BT, Tiscali and Orange when you compare average actual download speeds*. You lucky thing!
The good stuff doesn’t stop there, either. With V Stuff (free for every customer), you can now backup your most precious files with the click of a button, store up to 5Gb of music, photos and more online. Plus, print up to 25 snaps for free** - every month!
Haven’t got V Stuff yet? Just click the link below and set it up in a couple of seconds flat.

Test 4: 2048K took 2049 ms = 999.5 KB/sec, approx 8236 Kbps, 8.04 Mbps

I'm not complaining & quite happy with the speed increase, & also realise just about everything has a yearly increase, I was replying to the statement that eveyone was notified of the impending price increase. I wont cancel just because of £2 a month extra.

I knew you were but many people think the opposite and your post was convenient.

I agree! My area does not even have a date and they keep telling me to keep checking the link.
Apparently they are still scheduling an upgrade for my area. I wish they would stop hyping about the upgrade and concentrated on getting the upgrades done and then informing customers rather than the other way round.
