Looking at the FAQ, I think your right http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...nd/m-p/2060120

Will my broadband speed upgrade cost any extra money?
Absolutely not! Your speed upgrade will not change the amount you pay each month for your broadband service.
|
So if I'm reading this right my £5 loyalty discount should by rights remain intact for the remaining period left on it and just extend any contract?

I don't suppose that those already on 120mb will get a price reduction to the cost of 60mb?

Nope, because the two tiers will end up on completely different speeds
The reason 100Mbit customers got price reduction to the same as 50Mbit was because those two tiers were/are merged into 120Mbit
However, as long as you aren't a bundle that has a fixed broadband element, you'll be able to downgrade if you want to pay the XL tier price

Thankfully they seem to be doing away with the STM, only a matter of time now I think.

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
I'm guessing the reason upload will remain the same is because VM maybe waiting until they have overhauled the network for QAM64 upload in all areas which seems like it's going to take them quite some time to accomplish.
Another point MyVM mentioned nothing about requiring a new 12-month contract when I checked it earlier today. Not sure if they mistakenly left that piece of info off or not. It did say 120 to 152 though. Mixed signals as usual it seems.

VM have form for offering the new speeds to new customers while existing customers either have to wait or phone in and agree to new contracts - I'd guess that once it starts new customers will get the new speeds whether or not their area is ready as that is what happened last time.

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
In my case as being user of 120Mb service, If they do not increase Upload speeds at all and keep it 12Mb then it's kind of pointless committing for another 12 month contract even if it's no extra charge for it..
Without upload speed being upgraded then it looks as follows:
50Mb Down 3Mb Up (2Mb)
100Mb Down 3Mp Up
152Mb Down 12Mb Up
Will have to think twice whether to upgrade or not.. Does not seem to be worth it..

It already gives a schedule - for instance mine says

Your upgrade will be ready in your area between April 2014 and September 2014.

Spot on
126Mb become 145Mb (only 19Mb extra) but not worth it for another 12 months contract. (I am fed up with virgin greedy git try to keep u on for another 12 months just for 19Mb extra of speed)

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
mines going up to 100mb between July and December 14 though this could be quicker as the roll out should be smoother now they've upgraded the network

They're not forcing you to sign anything. You can opt in if you want, or don't, it's up to you.
Personally, I think it's quite clever of them. Give people "free" speed upgrades to keep them from leaving, but raise the price of the product regardless. It's kind of a double win for Virgin.
Of course, considering that they are raising prices, it's a bit rich of them to say that the upgrade is "free".
