Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds Late Summer 2004
More news from BT, which can only be good for BB prices.
The process of opening up BT's networks to other operators - known as local loop unbundling (LLU)
It published proposals to open up BT's exchanges in May and at the same time BT announced that its charges for LLU would be dropped by 70%.

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds Late Summer 2004
Here in Bromley bb performance has never been an issue for me (since I changed to a SACM ) but in the last few weeks I've noticed reduced latency, with most of the ntl core network returning sub 10ms pings and my own servers coming in at around 14ms - So it looks like they've been spending some money
Keep up the good work! (lest hope it stays that way when we all get the increased speed)

Interesting, someone else on digitalspy said that apparently the entire country was going to get the upgrade next week.
Although... shouldn't the upgrade be going ahead this week from what someone else heard?
You can see where I'm going with this...

Indeed, Ive long gave up with NTL actually telling a date, so Ive decided to start enjoying My new PC i built last week, when It happens, yippee, I'll live on until then. All these rumours are just made by people who want to feel important, but we all know what would smash those rumours
I'll run away now

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds Late Summer 2004
I think exact date's given by reps are probably true, its a bit different from people saying I heard. Belfast on 28 July and Leics on 1st August would make sense as they are close to each other so would suggest maybe ntl are doing upgrades from late july to early august and I doubt the whole thing would be done at the same time.

I agree the core network looks in good shape, extract from a traceroute back to my home PC ubr from the office:---
Code:

The core network was always underloaded - traces from external sources confirmed this. Just local HFC area's (to you - cabling in your area) were getting congestion hence why latency wasnt as good as it is now. NTL have just resegmented yours and many others areas.

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds Late Summer 2004
Well last week I lost my internet for 12 hours, but the thing is the D/S light was the only light flashing, and it was flashing quickly which I havn't seen before
After the internet came back on, iv'e got better internet performance, downloads + uploads more stable, lower latency in counter-strike etc. Although my speed still reads 150k, NTL must be spending a lot of money around my area too

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds Late Summer 2004
I had the same, thought it was a fault, NTL CS didn't seem to know much about it though and arranged for an engineer to call. :s
All back up and I can report the same as you, stable and lower ping in games - still reported to be 150k

Since there's a lot of 19ms's in there - id imagine your using <windows 2000 , its ICMP Ping timer has a crap resolution. So it could be lower.
