But my point was that I was trying to establish exactly where on that journey we're at at the moment - as it stands, the part of the journey we're at didn't exist during the last set of upgrades.

At the moment, only £37.99 users can request an upgrade to the 10Mbps service. As it stood during the last upgrade, all tiers could request an upgrade once it was made available via CS.

I'll swap over the USB connection, see if it helps any, 2 of them are USB 2, it'll be like a lottery.

THe upload speed is perfect though, very fast.
USB 2.0 would be best, however as I am sure you know ethernet is waaay preferable as it does not have the cpu overheads that USB does...

Actually, I am not really sure what spec USB port the Ambit has, so I may be feeding you a red herring mate!!!

NTL say this:

If you ring up and are in one of the pilot areas you can ask to be put onto 10Mbit. If you're not in a pilot area, such as Hampshire, then it'll be first week in December. I don't know what the pilot areas are. They read from an email which they've all had today.

It's absolutely no different to what happened during the last set of upgrades, and people didn't like it then. But, let's be honest, it's the logical way of doing things - who wants to market 1, 2 and 3Mbps services when it's easier and more logical to market 10Mbps?

Just had a row, STB customers need to switch to SACMS they will tell you when this is, so dont bother calling and asking!

So what point are you trying to make?

1 / 2mb users seem to be able to upgrade to 10mb via the web in certain areas.

When this was announced, they said that 3mb customers would get it first, ok this may not actually be the case, however as I see it, it all depends upon if your area has been enabled.

Until the entire network has been upgraded, as far as I see it you are still getting the service level that you are paying for, not the service level that may have been intimated at some *unspecified* point in the future.

Hope that clears up where I am coming from...

LOL, us STB customers are always last, maybe they are finally getting rid of STB's for internet use (TV only from now on ?) and putting all broadband internet on SACM's ?

I thought that we were told that the Samsung STB's could easily take 10mb though ?

Seems a bit strange, clear as mud as usual it seems !

Well the idiot i spoke to didnt grasp the fact i have been told that we cannot have a SACM here as we have tv and the net, and yet he was saying I would get one when NTL decide to write to me about it, which he said would mean an appointment in 2006 sometime!

Nice call to cancellations tomorrow I think as I could have had a SACM months ago when the 3meg upgrade took place but as I said that would mean cancelling the tv service I was told Samsungs can handle any future speed increases....looks like they got it wrong! oh well £150 a month saved thank you very much NTL

Would it not be better to wait until the *facts* are clear rather than cancelling based upon *rumour* ???

I've had a SACM for broadband, a Samsung and a Pace box all at the same address (however they have to split the TV and Internet up under seperate accounts to do it). I just moaned that the STB kept crashing and I lost the Internet and they eventually gave me a SACM for Internet. No complaints since. Also allowed me to easily ditch the TV when I got Sky.

Re: *All* ntl 10meg Discussion (part 2)

lol

just phoned again as a last resort and got through to a nice scottish lady (is it the same one!?!?) and she's just upgraded me!

Direction

Actual Speed

True Speed (estimated)
Downstream 4973 Kbps (621.6 KB/sec) 5370 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 485 Kbps (60.6 KB/sec) 523 Kbps (inc. overheads)

thats what it is so far but I only finished the phonecall about 5 minutes ago

so therefore, if you get through to someone with a scottish accent and its a bloke, give up, if its a girl, try !
