When I have 30 minutes of padding and it's still not enough to not cut off the end of a program because it started 45minutes late, I have a serious problem with the product.

It's not just a one off, it happens time and time again with the same program. I'm thinking of switching to an hour of padding before it because there's a 1 in 3 chance I'm going to miss the end of the program with it set to half hour. It's a good job I only have it set to keep 1 episode, else I'd run out of hdd space just on padding alone.

Would be useful to know what program it is. e.g if it it always follows a live program they can often overrun. Formula 1 is notorious for this especially if practice or the race gets delayed. I remember once it was running so late that it was switched over to BBC 2 to finish. At least it willl be better on Sky as it will be on a channel running sports only

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Isn't there a option that gives you an hours padding automatically if there is a live event before the planned recording?

Yes there is as it comes up when you press record and it asks you if you want to do that.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

I am pretty sure it's a global setting that can be turned in the settings menu.

It's a setting that allows a warning to pop up on screen, to add padding for live events.

If you switch it off, then you get no warning... you can of course still add padding if you choose to.

Smackdown on a friday night on Sky Sports.

I've got it on a series link, so there's no prompts for any live events. I'm at the stage now where I've given up on it actually recording properly and it's just set to download from newsgroups instead, It's ridiculous that I'm paying to watch something but to actually watch it I have to download it instead.

That is somewhat Sky Sports fault as they're always messing about with the scheduling of the show.

And yet, that's not a problem for viewers on other platforms.

Anyone remember PDC? It updated video recorders when the scheduling changed - PDC was out in 2003:

Yet here we are, almost a decade later in the digital age, and if anything we've gone backwards as far as TiVo is concerned for auto-compensating for scheduling changes.

Yep, I had to 'acquire' the 2 episodes of the Kennedys which TiVo declined to record, and before anyone asks - no, that wasn't due to a scheduling change or the lack of a Dynamic EPG. It was more poor metadata fed to my TiVo.

No it's not.
Schedules change, especially on channels that show live sports.

Launching an STB in 2011 that cannot deal with that fact is pretty much inexcusable. It's not like it's some crazy new idea to have a dynamic EPG.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Has anyone else set a series link for champions league goal highlights on ss1?
Although set to 'new only' its picked up the new show, plus about 6 repeats throughout the day! Highley annoying going through every week deleting the planned recordings for the repeats

Will probably mean that all that was provided to Tribune was generic show info rather than specific episode info.
