Barring the recontract taking the upgrade won't trigger any bundle changes as far as I'm aware.

I fear that as well, I think this is one that's best to ask retentions about when it arrives.

I hope not, as I'm still going to remain on the same tier level as far as I know.

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
So mine is due to be upgraded to 120Mb (finally) by the end of this month and then upgraded to 152Mb sometime between March and May next year.
April/May is when my contract expires anyway so nice timing

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
I am surprised at the jump from 120 to 152 - I would have thought the jump would be higher.
Still, good news though all round I'd say !

Couple with the new traffic management, then I guess that means 50/100 tiers should still always be faster than infinity? (yes yes, congestion, blah blah).

They're only taking forever with the lower tiers. I've never seen anyone on 120Meg with less than 12meg upload. 50 -> 100 was stuck on 100/5 for a while but when they went to 120, it has always had 12 as far as I've seen.
30 and 60 sure are taking their sweet time, though. Are we going to see people on 100/3? Yuck.

your 'only' means a lot tho given most VM customers are not on the 120 tier.
Not sure why VM feel the need to always be faster than BT, its this policy thats their undoing with congestion.

it is the only thing they have got going for them atm. You can see the marketing gurus at it already:
"love gaming and streaming HD movies, then you need the UK's fastest fiber optic broadband connection from Virgin Media......."

Well I got the notification, so I think it's fine for mates rates. They usually treat me pretty well :P

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
Tbb article says this will begin in February but this also comes along with an average price increase of 6.7% for cable customers but no details yet on what exactly will go up. Not good for these tightening of 'strings times.

Re: Virgin Media 150Mb Coming 2014
I've been poking around looking for this - I kinda expected some sort of upgrade on the horizon. I don't know if its linked, but this could be a ploy to prevent people switching to BT for the TV/Broadband combo now that they have the football rights.
Theoretically Virgin should be able to wipe the floor with BT if they can boast not only the BT sports channels but the fastest broadband around too.
Looking forward to the upgrade. I'm assuming it wont need any more major cabinet upgrades will it, as the 120meg upgrades would have surely added future capacity into the cabs?
152mb is what mine says it'll be...bit of an odd number but hey ho. Bring on 100/200/500mbps in 2015.

On the flip side people could downgrade from 120mb to the future 100mb to save money while having their speed almost unaltered.

Hopefully at that point they'll be announcing the rollout for docsis 3.1 across 2016.

Indeeed, bottom tier went 10 -> 30 -> 50, mid tier went 20 -> 60 -> 100, top tier went 100 -> 120 -> 150

Well it's never been the UK's fastest, Gigaclear or Hyperoptic anyone?

My old Be DSL connection could send and receive a message to BBC in only 5ms. Seems faster than pretty much every VM connection I've seen
ie. there are various definitions of 'fast'!
