A genius reverse double bluff by unelected bureaucrats with their gold plated pensions and gold plated wives.
I would have thought there would be cheering at restricting immigration in to the Eurozone

Re: Spain and Gibraltar
HMS Westminster was scheduled to be going that way in any case, so from that perspective they're not escalating things, just doing business as usual. On the other hand, they're not going out of their way to observe Spanish sensitivities. Mind you, why should they ...

Not quite sure how this is 'taking our side'?

It has told the government in Madrid that Spain must "address and discuss" with the European Union its angry dispute over fishing rights and sovereignty of the rocky outcrop, ceded to Britain under the 300-year-old Treaty of Utrecht.

Because the bit you cut out told them to cut it out and told them to talk about what's going on. Here you go:
Quote:
Spain must allow "smooth and efficient border crossings" with Gibraltar, the European Commission has warned, as it stepped into the row between Madrid and Britain.
It has told the government in Madrid that Spain must "address and discuss" with the European Union its angry dispute over fishing rights and sovereignty of the rocky outcrop, ceded to Britain under the 300-year-old Treaty of Utrecht.
It has also pledged to send officials to the border between Spain and Gibraltar, to investigate the "serious complaints" it says it has received.

You cut a single part and ignored the rest.

Re: Spain and Gibraltar
... and what terrible sanction will the EU impose upon Spain if they decide to carry on breaking the law I wonder?
It'll be interesting to see how this thing pans out, especially if (God forbid) someone dies as a result of this illegal action by the Spanish.

I didn't ignore it. The discussing of "fishing rights and sovereignty" is siding with Spain, as there is nothing to discuss.

Thats my concern, i feel the EU will do nothing other than say something needs to be done but will not make them do it.
I will say i am wrong on this situation if the EU MAKE Spain drop this stupid argument and punish them for what they have done so far. however what i feel will happen is that if they try to bring in the charges there own people will kick off and make them change. The EU will not be the reason why this gets resolved and will not hit Spain as hard as the EU tend to and have hit us in the past.
