Re: Subject: Screen resolutions

Buts lets not forget the OP was asking in the context of web page design. and so screen resolution is not really relavent, since whos to say their browser is in full screen mode anyway
Which is why % is better

Oooh yes! Got Compiz Fusion working on my laptop, it's great!
I was just thinking about the multiple desktop aspect itself, regardless of Compiz Fusion.

Quote:
I always forget to close apps so i have them spread over the desktops, but i forget they are open, and im getting rather lazy/messy with icons atm
The "Scale" plugin being one of the better ones of course

Tried, it works, kind of, puts me in a little box area on top left part of the screen, rest of screen is black and i cannot click anything.

Always been like that.
Have you tried
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Just use TAB/Enter to accept all the defaults, until you come to the RES part where you should be able to choose the one you want??
Once you`ve done then CTRL-ALT-Backspace to restart X

True, but 6 desktops on a rotatable cube is cool (Especially if you press the Left and Right Mouse Buttons together and you can move it about manually)

Or middle mouse button
Top left mouse gesture for Expo, top right for scale are the handiest of them all.Especially the latter

Or those who prefer to sit a bit further back from their screen. My system may not be bleeding-edge, but it's hardly 5 years old either: AMD X2 6000+, 4GB RAM, ATI X800 GTO, etc.

Same here, on both of them [dual monitor setup]

Yes, well, not all of us sit with our noses pressed up against the screen. I had to put up with 1280x1024 when playing around with *buntu live CDs, & it's too damned small for regular use for me. Hopefully I shouldn't have any probs getting 1024x768 once I do a proper install.

I sit about 3-4 feet from my screen on average and have that running at 1440x900 (WS) and 1280x1024 (Normal Aspect)

You must have amazing eyesight then [or really strong glasses ]. I can read text smaller than [for example] the size I have Firefox set to use [all sizes under fonts set to 20], but If I did, I'd end up with sore eyes &/or a headache fairly quickly. I don't need a higher resolution for anything, so don't see any point in using 1.

Was the first thing i tried.

No matter what i do it locks me in a small box in the top corner which only ctrl+alt+backspace solves.

followed by sudo dpkg-reoncfigure server-xorg @ prompt.

Otherwise i get stuck with a box in the left corner permanently.

Re: Subject: Screen resolutions

I run 1280x1024 on my 19" 4:3 screen & 1280x720 on my 26" but I rarely use the 26" for anything other than HD content.

I used to have a compaq V50 15" and ran that at 1024x768 without sitting on top of the screen I have good eyesight.

Or very old eyes...

Not all of us can cope with these tiny icons.
