It won't be screwed, it will continue working fine just as before. 4 channels already gives you 200mb, >4 will never be "required" to run 100mb on the DOCSIS level.

What VM decides they want you to do or chooses to enforce is another matter, and whether this will impact end-user performance is still up for debate.

Cloned modems are a very small issue and will very shortly become no issue.

As in Virgin have technically always required the SuperHub for 100Mbit. Allowing the VMNG300 for it was always an exception (usually by CEOs)

So why would they suddenly allow it as part of the tier change when they don't allow it as part of the normal product?

Policy wise, possibly, technically though, 60mb over 200 is not going to be noticeably different from the current 53 over 200 setup.

That's because that wasn't a tier upgrade. XL 30 was a new tier that just happened to cost the same as the existing 20Mbit service

20Mbit is still available for customers on 2/10Mbit with a modem and want to upgrade but don't want to pay the £30 fee for a SuperHub

As far as I know, each channel on DOCSIS3 is capable of 50Mbit so yeah, 4x channels gets you 200Mbit (just about). Once again, there is no reason technically to have to have a Superhub, however I do also know that virgin has had support issues with the Ambit 300 in the past (issues regarding firmware updates that they had to pay through the nose for), which is probably why they want people off them as soon as possible.

I have never disagreed with you on what works at 100 meg . I honestly would have my vmg300 back tomorrow if i had the chance. It comes to something that as soon as i push the shub that little bit harder than what is standard i then have to jump on Modem mode and run my network via a clearos router and wireless repeater.

Yes your are correct lots of users on 50 will just take the 100 to ensure they keep the VMG300 modem

I can see many 50mbit people downgrading to be honest.

They can downgrade to 30 and still get a speedbump to 60.

VM never seem to learn on these free speed bumps. If I want more speed I just need to wait a year and VM will upgrade me free on a annual basis.

Umm...yes? I mean "No" isn't exactly much of an argument. But the point is that most people, I'm talking about 90% of Virgin's 4million BBI customers, will buy cheap stuff because it's cheap. Why pay £700 for a laptop when PC world has one on sale for £250? Bargain! And that's where the cheapnesss creeps in - wireless is nearly always one of the first things to get cut down because it'll still be rated as Wireless-N on the box no matter what.

Even £150 Netbooks have 2x2.

Read what I said above, the problem is what's written on the box doesn't necessarily meet what the equipment can actually handle - you only have to look at the Superhub itself to see that.

If it's written on the box, the equipment can handle it. Whether it can handle it well and reliably is another matter. What's your point? N is slower than G? Rubbish.
