Not true. He got a yellow for that, so he can't be penalised again.

Not according to the Beeb........

Re: World Cup 2006 Thread

this isn't the first time we've seen portugal totally lose the plot. anyone remember euro 2000?

fifa can extend the punishment - see de rossi getting 4 matches instead of 3 for evidence.

cocu probably didn't. van bommel on the otherhand...

didn't see much acting to get khalid sent off. did see khalid intentionally hit him in the face though.

Re: World Cup 2006 Thread

only just had time to post

i thought England were poor.. we all know Rooney isn't a lone striker and doesn't really hold up the ball that well.. he is far better when the play is in front of him and he comes into it abit like Gerrard when he does well with liverpool

thought most of England played badly and not sure how they picked someone out for man of the match as i never saw anyone stand out

Germany didn't play great in the group stages but they used the same system the whole time and then when they had to they played better against Sweden, something we couldn't do.

We were still poor and had about one shot on target from a free kick.. Ecuador caused us a few problems so what will Portugal do

The ref in the Portugal \ Holland game didn't have a clue and shouldn't have been there at this level.. he spoilt a great game and if i was the Holland FA i would be demanding a reply.. as soon as the players started to realise he would book everyone they just played into his hands with all the diving and rolling about.. i think really there is a case for FIFA to wipe them all out and have no bans or anyone on yellows

as for the Figo head butt yes he shouldn't have done it and got a card for it but the holland bloke over reacted.. there is no way on earth that it would have made anyone fall over let alone even hurt you.. it is ridiculous that Figo could get banned from TV evidence but when they watched it they will see a Dutch bloke cheating and pretending to be hurt and he will get rewarded for that..

according to the Laws of the Game unsportsman like behavour is a yellow card offence but i've seen players waving yellow cards at the ref to get other players booked.. i've seen players patting the ref on the back when they have booked someone.. i've seen players clap the ref too and nothing has ever been done about that

if you ask the fans do they care about players wearing jewelery and do you care about players cheating i'm sure i know which one the fans want to see stopped yet which one is that FIFA working on cutting out of the game ?

I'd love to see England win the world cup, but I'm a realist. They have got absolutely no chance if they continue to play as they are. We are lucky that we have not come up against one of the big guns. I think Brazil, who are not firing on all cylinders yet could still beat us, and that's with a way under par Ronaldo. God knows what the likes of Argentina or Germany could do to us! How we can have a bunch of players (our "Golden Generation")who turn in fantastic performances for their clubs, but perform as they do in an England shirt is beyond me. I do not think it can all be down to Sven either. Personally, I do not think that things will improve much under Maclaren when he takes over the reigns. What has he done for Middlesborough considering all the cash he has been given to spend by his Chairman (Steve Gibson)? Nothing, that's what. Don't give me the, "Middlesborough done well in Europe last season" rubbish. The bottom line is that they lost. Nobody remembers losers, they only remember who came out on top. You should look at where Middlesborough finished in the league to see the true picture. The F.A should have gone for Martin O'neil, or Sam Allardyce, but that would not have suited the F.A. Two people who say it as it is in front of camera. Not exactly the kind of P.R. the F.A like. O'Neil can motivate players, and isn't afraid to bruise a few ego's if it's required. Allardyce would also drop a few of the big names as well if they under performed. After all, who would you say is the better manager. Someone given bucket fulls of cash to spend on players and finished near the bottom of the league, or someone who has consistently finished in the top half, and done it on a shoestring? I know what my opinion on that one is.

Re: World Cup 2006 Thread

watching the game at the weekend you could see that during the match is was Sm who was writting down notes and tactics anyway and doing all the shouting and stuff to the players.. Sven doesn't do anything and with SM taking over after the WC Sven should have gone already.. it will be better for the team and SM to take over now when he does most of it anyway

This is like blaming anyone but the parents of todays juvenile delinquents.

The referee, didn't go over the ball, he didn't dive, cheat, feign injury or foul anyone. The people responsible for last nights debacle are the players and the managers and no one else.

Sir if I had a hat to cover my bald head then I would raise it to you. You have summed it up better than I ever could. Greenie on its way.

SM keeps taking so many notes, is he writing a book about each game? Southgate said it clearly: SM ain't ready. He is a PR man that put massage chairs in Derby FC!!!

Re: World Cup 2006 Thread

Watching last nights game (Portugal/Holland) reminded me why I hate all things football.....those players where not professional in any sense of the word but just a bunch of cheats who did not want to try and win by skill alone............doing anything they could to disadvantage the other team !

Does anyone think Italy should be disqualified for the way they won that match??

It just makes a complete joke of the whole thing.

Is Mick McCarthy, commentating on BBC coverage, the most 'northern' man in the world?
