Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.

Netflix have changed their long term view:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...h&ir=UK%20Tech

"Netflix recently changed its "long term view" note to reflect the new way it sees itself: as a TV network."

"On Monday, Netflix made a bunch of small tweaks to the wording in a note meant to advise investors, first pointed out by BTIG analyst Rich Greenfield, but the most telling one is that Netflix changed the sentence that simply read "We are movies and TV shows" to "We are a movie and TV series network."

I wonder if through time we will see a linear Netflix TV channel launch?

They class themselves as a network now because of all the commissions they have done, House Of Cards, Arrested Development, Orange is the New Black, however they won't launch a linear channel, the Netflix format works too well, hence why they can afford these big money shows.

The only chance of seeing Netflix on linear tv is if they sell the rights to some of the content to existing broadcasters.

I could understand a preview service but I guess it will be like YouTube and non-Tivo viewers will get locked out

Yeah, I think you are right. Netflix have made their plans to help kill linear TV very clear:

He is heavily wrong as a few channels are rumoured to launch during the Autumn and a couple are already testing.

All we wanted to do was to revert to manual tuning as before. It was not known by us, nor our provider, that Sky had hardened their attitude to non EPG signals. We found that no Sky SD boxes would get our signal at all. Sky had nil interest in sending a software signal to make the boxes hear us. Then we found that each time they sent a general update to the HD boxes, this wiped the stored memory so that the listener had to go through the tuning process all over again and again....
I know that Radio Caroline is coming off satellite on 30 Setember, but are they closing on UPC too (as per MB list). If so, I guess that Radio Caroline won't be coming to VM.

Maybe Virgin should carry all of these channels then they can say they offer all of the Freeview and Freesat channels.

.....Fashion One
Fashion One recently came off Freesat, not sure if it's on Sky. As Fashion TV is a much larger company and Is currently carried by UPC in Ireland, I would imagine it more likely that we would get the latter.

Thanks for this - interesting reading.

Does anyone know how many channels are on the sky system that do not have an EPG number (so how many others could potentially be affected by this?)

The channel has started testing as of now. Inbetween the "coming soon" slate, a red animal will appear (static), keep an eye out for it for when it starts moving

This will eventually become a VOD signpost channel.

Not many, but it will annoy people who have additional ITV regions tuned in.

Most on the ones without channel numbers are at the bottom of THIS list.
