NTL, and any other company, need new customers to add to the revenue coming in which pays for upkeep and expansion. Most companies give incentives to encourage new customers to sign up. When I first joined NTL I was getting DTV Family Pack, telephone and free dial-up internet for only £9.99 a month. This package cost less than I was paying for a dial-up package.

But if you lie to the investors, the investors pull out, they take their money with them. With the amount NTL is in debt, that would bankrupt the company. Regardless of the amount of profit made by the company.

ok point taken
not quite sure what happened then, I would have to guess the cap is still planned but just delayed.

Here's an alternative to NTL... http://www.ukonline.net/broadband/?doc=bb2000 . Uncapped 2mbit for £29.99 a month.
It seems not all ISPs agree that caps are essential.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
according to the bill payer of the house the 1.5Mb is still going at £25.99 now if thats not rewarding older customers, i dunno what is way to go ntl i imagine the prices will stay the same even when they go 3Mb
aparantly ordering it when ntl was 512kb only was a good thing, back then when price was lower. that cant be bad at all
even though i am ordering ukonline tomorrow. way to go ntl if ukonlines offer wasent so good i would stick with 25.99 3Mb

Good for you..
What's wrong with offering incentives to KEEP customers once you have them?

alot of people dont bother switching services becuase they are happy with the service, NTL does not need to worry about people who are existing customers as most are proberbly happy and dont or hardly even complain.
compaines will only take advantage of long time payers and subscribers, notice how effective the retention technique is ?

i know there isent but the current 1.5Mb is at 39 or whatever it is and i still pay £25.99 from the old pricing i am not being charged the 30something for the 1.5 so maybe the same will happen for the 3Mb, as i am told its not happening until march now so i wont find out but im sure it would stay the same
