Re: Does anyone use evolutiondsl.net for there broadband...

Well as of this afternoon i have moved back to cable till Be Unlimited go live in my exchange.

The trouble i have had this last 2 weeks with Adsl providers is unbelievable.

Ntl phoned me yesterday and made a offer i could not refuse.

10 meg broadband for life of my contract at £19.00. A promise that they will not mess up my bill again.

And the biggest and best bit, they have fitted a new card in my UBR and i am no longer on a oversubscribed card.

I still have my BT line and i WILL be moving to Be Unlimited when they go live. Up to 24 meg will be fine for me .

The guy I asked informs that he has no idea about this option in the control panel that lets you decide how your traffic is shaped. This seemed a weird option to be honest as all users will have both their own personal shaping and then a global all user shaping on all customers.

If you can direct to this option it'd be appreciated. He says:

Quote:
Only control you have is to enable and disable P2P surf - which means blocking P2P or not.

Thats all there is..

Very strange.
He's highly jealous of your near 8Mbit all the time on NNTP as well, he doesn't get close at peak times.

Looking at Basil's posts on ADSLGuide I don't think he's too pleased with Evo

Re: Does anyone use evolutiondsl.net for there broadband...

OK I looked at these guys with a bit of concern at them seeming a tad too cheap...

Quote:
Until Friday 28/4/06 my Evo connection has invariably given me 290 to 300 KBps for any internet activity including NNTP and HTTP from Easynews. An excellent service.

Since then Evo have introduced new equipment which ChrisW has described on this board as giving priority to non-leachers.

Yesterday I used my connection mainly for surfing, no large downloads until evening when I needed to get some TV programs off Easynews.

The first file was 716 meg and I used Flashget. The download started at 300KB and after 500Meg was down the speed reduced to 240KBps, at 600 down it was at 120Kbps and continued thereafter to halve after each further 50Meg.
A speedtest when the download finished showed a speed of 0.06Meg

Another 410Meg download 30 minutes later stayed at around 300KBps for the whole download. and then a speed test gave 2340kbps.

Just to prove a point my neighbour on a different ISP carried out the same downloads at the same time and was never throttled. His phone line characteristics are identical.

Evolution have introduced Bandwidth Management to artificially limit download speeds if the file(s) are larger than 500Meg and this throttling is progressive.

If you interupt the download for 30 minutes the bandwidth manager resets and you get anothe 500Meg at full capability, then throttling starts again.

I notice there have been subtle changes to how Evo describe their service.
Throttling if you download too much at once. Not nice and not what I'd expect from an unlimited service.

Wonderful example of Evolution's throttling by throughput on the DuMeter there.

Re: Does anyone use evolutiondsl.net for there broadband...

That site is a pretty disgusting site actually, run by a pikey for want of a better word.

The guy was a total fanboy who banned people who said bad things about Evo, he's now become total venom to them saying it's ok to swear so long as you abuse them, throwing out some pretty foul mouthed tirades, changing the rules of the site according to his own needs, etc

I see you can no longer read the posts without registering. Guess he didn't like the criticism he was getting

Im sure this is the 2nd time ive seen you knocking PN, are your comments through experience? or by sitting on the sideline watching in?
PN are playing with words, they do shape no matter what you used but call it traffic prioritisation instead. So if you only use your internet for nttp or p2p but nothing else it and only use it in the evening then your traffic will be shaped as they shape it so http runs fast. The only time when none of your traffic is shaped whatsoever is if you are on a PAYG product with them or if you are below your cap and use it in non peak time.

Dont know if the 200:1 is true or not but if it is then they deserve the bad plublicity they getting.

Their is a recent trend of shaping by isps but has anyone also noticed the recent trend to over contend, their was recently published figured showing plusnet had 30:1 contention in feb 2005 and of course they didnt need to shape then but after they moved the bulk of their users from 512kbit to 2meg and brought no extra capacity the contention in jan 2006 had rose to 100:1 and they of course say its irrelevant and all the heavy users are to blame .

I do wonder if their is any isp left who do truly contend at 20:1 and need to shape, I bet their isnt.

Interesting so in your case no reseg done just a new card put in? Someone maybe got pushed for that you reckon? doesnt sound like something ntl would normally do as your ubr had a reseg not long before it.

So you have entered into a new 12 month contract then?

It's unlikely that they can even offer a concrete 'for life' price on anything m8.

Is that still in August 2006?

How can you do this when you've just entered into a 12 month contract with ntl for your BB?

Neil I may be wrong but I think he never actually ended his old broadband account, I think he has just kept his old account active with them for the time being!

I may be wrong.

Im on Premier option 2... If you login to the members area, and click connection settings on the left hand menu, then click the icon top right that says Traffic Manager... its all in there...

Maybe its his exchange rather than plus net? if its that bad.. why hasnt he moved on?

Re: Does anyone use evolutiondsl.net for there broadband...

kingphoenix are you denying plusnet shape any traffic when below the FUP allowance?

what do you use your connection for out of coriousity because it could be if you only use http you dont notice the shaping (prioritisation).

Well .. I dont have it ... None of the 10 or so accounts i have checked have it...

No one in PlusNet IRC chat has it ... Staff dont appear to have ever heard of it ... therefore one assumes unless he is getting confused with "surf" which is a P2P on/off button - then hes winding you up.

Ask for a screen grab with it on ... or his username - so someone at PN can check ....
