Re: How can I configure Shub2ac?
Quite a few routers have 2 or even 3 guest networks available on each band, so I can see how Netgear might have reserved the bottom 3 or 4 bits in firmware, even if all those networks are not enabled. If the Virgin guy knew his stuff when he said .1 - .4 were special (a bit of an "if" given the variability of telephone support!), it's almost certain that 5 - 7 would also be reserved. I'd say, it's worth trying 192.168.16.1, compared to the hassle of changing the "main" network. Or, as you say, try something completely different like a 10.x.x.x address.

Re: How can I configure Shub2ac?
I've heard of people using .3 on their Superhubs and also AFAIK it comes up with a specific error message (something along the lines of Guest network cannot be on same subnet as host network) if it is that specific sort of conflict.

Re: How can I configure Shub2ac?
Were they using ac models? I don't have the ac version (and use modem mode anyway) but I guess something may have changed there. Clearly something odd is going on!

A quick read online says the ac model has 2 guest networks per band. So, based on the way they seem to have implemented it, it makes sense that 192.168.1 - 192.168.1.7 would be special.

Not sure, but it could indeed have changed.

Possible, also possible VM have issued a firmware update as they had at some point vague plans to offer public guest access via a CPE.

Just checked my SH2 and given my LAN is configured as 172.20.60.64/26
First 2.4G 172.20.61.0/24
Second 2.4G 172.20.62.0/24
First 5G 172.20.68.0/24
Second 5G 172.20.69.0/24
So it uses the LAN subnet as a base.
Ian
(I wonder what would happen if I set my LAN to 172.20.254.0/24 )

Re: How can I configure Shub2ac?
So Andrew, it sounds like 192.168.16.1 should work. Try it!

Re: How can I configure Shub2ac?
Afraid not. It doesn't accept 192.168.5.1 or even 192.168.9.1 as its address.
I have given up on trying to change it and resorted to changing all the IP addresses on my network to avoid the conflict. A pain, but it works now.
(Edit: Sorry - above was addressed to qasdfdsaq comment above that it should work with this range). That was before I noticed that you guys had made further suggestions! For some reason the Board did not notify me of them).

Re: How can I configure Shub2ac?
Update:
As you guys have persevered with this I thought I'd just revert to trying the suggested change for you. And you are indeed CORRECT it DOES accept 192.168.16.1. A result!
Well done for working that one out!
Regards
Andrew

Re: How can I configure Shub2ac?
ty Andrew. Crazy they expect you to work this out! If only some addresses will work they need to tell you or only offer a drop down list.
