Re: Virgin Media investigates 10Gbps DOCSIS 3.1 connections

This'll come in handy for UHDTV streaming which takes about 500Mbps per channel...

ASA may be able to slap VM for their misleading ads but they can't slap a VM employee who starts a thread, thats my job!
Is it, and its our job to show up users with a chip on there shoulder

People who just think negatively of anything posted about a company that they are unable to prove wrong should be slapped down, try posting facts rather than guesswork.

Re: Virgin Media investigates 10Gbps DOCSIS 3.1 connections

I am so glad you came along to complete the picture Peter_.

First let me say that I have discussed in this thread the news article and what the extra speed could be used for, beside mentioning that VM will not be giving this to customers any time soon. What is there in the article to prove wrong?

Just like Theenry you have come here to attack me personally. There are no counter arguments to what I say, as in this case what I have said is correct and accurate.

When one joins this forum they quickly notice that any negative post about VM is argued against by Carl, Peter_, Ben and to a lesser extent thenry for no real reason, until you notice that one is infatuated with the company, another was posting as an employee of VM although no longer, one is currently a VM employee and posts here in a kind of PR role almost as if it is his job.

With that in mind one will look at a post such as this started by Ben as a VM PR post. These sort of posts mostly come from Ben so maybe he should have something in his signature to say he is a VM PR guy, so that no one can be mislead and others will not feel like pointing out or countering something they feel is misleading.

Re: Virgin Media investigates 10Gbps DOCSIS 3.1 connections

FFS. Why does every thread related to VM end up with people bickering, rather than debate on the topic. I'll remind you all of: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/90...ty-clause.html

The article only suggests that are trying docsis 3.1 which would give those maximum options, not that VM actually will push out such a product within the next few years.

Lots of could's in that article. They could start trials in 2014, then again they could not.
The point is that fibre to the house will not be required for a long time to come

Other Fibre providers don't use the same technology if im not mistaken. So Fibre to the house will be beneficial to every other isp except VM who could offer faster speeds with their current coax from the cabinet, so no extra outlay.

Unless you add to the equation upgrading the nodes that all the VM customers connect to past the cabinet which currently gives bottlenecks and causes misery for many users.

As I said, its interesting from a techy point of view but the article pointing out that VM customers could get that speed in a few years time does not mean VM will actually offer it.[COLOR="Silver"]

Re: Virgin Media investigates 10Gbps DOCSIS 3.1 connections

Strange - and do not claim for one second to understand this. On my PC(on 10 meg {is that right}) You tube etc is fine but on Tivo which I understand is also 10 is it lousy. In fact

So I keep hearing, but with these ultra fast speeds, can vm realistically, beyond trials, deliver these kind of speeds out to everyone?

Not being technically minded, I have no idea of the difficulties in providing such a fast service, but I would have thought on just one issue, signal noise, that would be a major impairment in itself to providing such a service. Fibre would have no such issues though, or at least not the same ones.
