Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

D4 being the latest updated batch manufactured by DLink

everyones SuperHub firmware will be upgraded next week to the new firmware being tested right now. you probably wont get that router before the new firmwares pushed but its still a nice solid 2.4GHz router to have about. for anything more flashy go for Asus or Linksys highend simultaneous dual band routers

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

Thanks for such a quick response!

Are you saying the the new firmware for the superhub will stop either version of dlink from working with it? Or just that it's worth waiting to see if the update fixes things?

I don't suppose there's any indication if this new SH firmware is likely to fix the current issues around torrents and wireless connections is there? Wishful thinking most likely!

Thanks again
Mark

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

the new firmware still has modem mode. you can still go about using your own choice of router if you wish.

with regards to the new firmware in short... its a MASSIVE improvement. http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...t-was-r35.html

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

Thanks thenry. Sounds like it's worth hanging fire. I've scanned over the linked topic, but can't see reference to the problem of torrents/overloading causing frequent crashes. Do you know if that's being addressed?

Really sorry to use you as a Virgin Support Service, but this is the most help (and sense) I've had out of anyone in weeks! Last night they told me to let my superhub "settle in for a few days" before calling back!! And also told me that a recurrent fault on my V+ HD box where deleted programs return was an area fault!! I'm not IT savvy, but I'm also not an idiot. Needless to say I formatted the HD on the box and that problem is now resolved!

Thanks again for all your help.

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

torrents are fine. theres services within the web intereface like now you can toy with if it plays up.. IP flood and all that. firewall set to low does a decent job. setting it to medium/high blocks safe programs. clarity on the firewall needs to be made. wifi upped its game. people posting 100meg wifi results in the beta forum.

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

Sounds promising, thanks. Looks like I'm making do with pretty much no internet for a week or so until I find out if it helps!

Cheers
Mark

Oh, one more thing. If my PCs are firewalled, does it matter if I turn the firewall on the hub off? That may be a really dumb question I know!!

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

if you live in or near Crawley ill sell you a 615 today.

firewall.. no and yes. the hardware firewall acts as a extra barier. ideally itshould be on but if your having trouble with it then disable.

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

Thanks for the offer - I live in Sheffield though so it'd be a bit of a trek!

I don't really know if it's the firewall causing any of the problems but might try turning it off and seeing if it helps any.

Thanks for all your help, Mark

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

It is the superhub firewall that causes torrent problems.

Yet another superhub feature that doesn't work as it should.

Switch it off along with IP Flood Protection. You will still be protected by NAT and your software firewall.

If you still get problems try switching off the software firewall as well.

As has been already stated, modem mode and a decent router is the only sure method of solving superhub related issues.

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

Thanks for that Mick, I'll try doing that when I get back from work - do take it that you're not expecting miracles from the firmware upgrade then?

Cheers, Mark

Re: Keep losing internet connection with Bittorent?

Torrents work fine if you switch off the Shub firewall. The R36 firmware is a massive improvement.

I have the superhub in modem mode with an asus rt-n16 router running tomatousb and it is "set it - forget it" good.

So yes you are right. I am not expecting miracles from any firmware upgrade after all you can't polish a "you know what" can you. VM have been polishing it for years now and it's still carp and probably always will be.

Same wireless problem even with Dlink router

Hi guys

Well, my Dlink DIR615 router came today. I've set it up and switched the superhub to modem mode. I have the same problem as before though - wired is fine, laptop with built in wireless is fine, as are smart phones, but the PC upstairs running the Virgin N wireless adapter can find the router, says there's a two-bar signal but can't find an internet connection. Occasionally it will for a few seconds, then reverts back to limited connectivity.

Pretty much at my wits end with this.

Can anyone offer any further advice? Any router settings that might help (doubtful I guess given that the other devices work fine)?

Cheers, Mark

Get inSSIDer, do a scan, take a screenshot and post it.
