I have had a V+ for years and a Tivo for around 6 months.

I am quite happy with the Tivo, particularly the large hard drive, but can see few advantages (in fact several disadvantages) over the V+.

Advantages: Spotify (I was already a premium subscriber so I could have it on my mobile). YouTube (though it is annoying the way it works). The ability to set recordings from my Android phone. The way it puts different episodes of the same programme into a folder is neat. Large hard drive.

Disadvantages (admittedly each is minor, but nonetheless annoying): Lack of V+ type mini guide (I know there are alternative ways, but I prefer the simple V+ approach to this); Does not tell you if you have watched a recording; If you are not careful, it suddenly deletes older episodes of a series without warning (what is the point of having a limit on the number of episodes saved when the hard drive is so large? OK I know you can usually find them in the deleted folder, but what a palava!); Lack of real time recording to fit the ACTUAL time a programme is broadcast - if it had this as just about all other modern PVRs have all this fuss over recording minutes before and after a show would be reduntant. Unless this is put in I do not see how VM can claim the Tivo to be the future of TV; Seems to me to be far more button pressing necessary compared to V+; Does not tell you if you have paused a programme and not watching it real time; Lack of display to say what channel you are on or how much of a recording has been shown.

If the V+ had been given a larger hard drive I would be just as happy with that as I am not interested in putting thumbs up and down by programmes. Rarely in the past used the red button or reminders but I can understand how people who did would be annoyed that these facilities are missing.

To sum up, the Tivo is fine but am not sure what all the fuss is about. Tivo's biggest problem is that the V+ was so good (except for the small hard drive) that for ordinary folk who simply want to record without fuss programmes to watch later (as opposed to TV geeks) it is difficult to better.

Well for me its v+ I tried Tivo was really happy to get Tivo then massive let down due to the fact it just would not play nice with my LG tv which was brand new.
After many calls to faults and tech visits it became apparent there was a hdmi not recognised issue between the two.
Leads changed tv software updated and problem still continued so on that basis the Tivo had to go back and the good old v+ returned.
I must be honest im not to bothered really about suggestions and appa so the V+ is fine for me the only bug bear being the midnight slow down but Im used to that.

I have had the same problems with my bravia , something that really irked me.A new hdmi seems thougth to have helped the issue.

Are you aware you can change this in the series recording options? I agree the default is too low though.

Press the play button. If the thick white bar is not at the end of the green line, you are watching delay TV.

I love the dynamic nature of setting an express series link, The Middle new episodes are starting on Friday 24th Feb, can the V+ do that NO!

I do not see the point of having a restriction on the number of episodes recorded. The average person does not not want to go to the series recording options, in the same way as you do not have to on V+.
