Re: Which is the better set top box
one major thing to consider is that no matter how long you have a Virgin Media Set Top Box any engineer visit will always be free as will any replacement equipment, plus the wait for an engineer on average is a lot shorter.
Now with SKY you own the box and after a year you have to pay an insurance premium to cover for any technician visits or replacement boxes or go to their version of retentions and try threatening to leave.
Now which is the better option.

Re: Which is the better set top box
My lease forbids any external aerial or dish, so my options are limited - I've never been able to get a half decent signal from an indoor aerial. That only leaves the V+ and TiVo; I have both, but the TiVo is the better of the two IMHO.

It works both ways when you think about it, no good having what you think is a great box the finding out you need to pay exorbitant repair bills is it.

After a year..if box breaks down, I say..replace or I switch to virgin (I've switched for a year, and went back when it suited me)
I've done both....so best break down policy is the one I choose.
My choice is still based content. And, I treat both companies the same as they treat me...if it suits my purposes, I move or stay..not their purposes. I suspect both companies do the same (though they never have told me that ).

Why do that when your Virgin Media set top box or modem is under permanent warranty and will be replaced free of charge, why go through the rigmarole of constantly changing provider, I can understand that with electricity and gas as the equipment stays the same.

Masque,
Even after the £7.80 a month warranty I pay (that covers both my Sky+ HD box's and dish etc) I am still paying less than I would for Virgin Media TV,and in my opinion I think the Sky box does the job well, the SD picture quality is good and more importantly I get Sky Atlantic included in my package. And yes before you ask I have had TiVo and found it to be slower, less responsive, poorer picture (both HD and SD) and over complicated even to do the "basics",I must add I had it before the software upgrade so my comments are based on this and from what I have heard on here there has been a vast improvement,so,who knows maybe next time I will switch to a TiVo,that is if Virgin get Sky Atlantic.....................
