My insurers do not sell on accident details thank goodness but the timing made it obvious that some one in the courts was/is passing on the details as the callers knew it was a motoring accident, had details that were in the initial submission and asked for my husband by name.

Has your insurer actually told you that? The reason I ask is because according to Watchdog most of them do it.

If it was someone in the courts, then I should think they are breaking the law. Unless it was just the press release, but that shouldn't give out your personal details.


They can get your phone number and the bill payers name from a telephone directory database, just like most cold callers. They will then say something like "I'm calling about the accident you had", just in the off chance that you were involved in an accident.

Yes I am sure my insurers keep claim details private. They make a point of doing so and it was a full year after my initial claim that the calls started asking speak to my husband who was the injured party named in the court application.

We have taken the matter up with the Court and an Official Enquiry is being undertaken as they agree the details have most probably been obtained through them. Though I doubt anything will turned up as I suspect the information is sold for a backhander.

who's the insurer ,if they definately don't give info out i might be interested in using them in a few months

Errrrr I think you are a tad tooooo young Saga Insurance.

As a bonus they also use "Plain English" and have a one point of contact for phone calls, so you don't get passed around. Us oldies need special kid glove handling, don't you know.

I wonder why companies don't think people of any age want to be treated the same way?

The trouble is in this blame culture we live in, that they are costing the rest of us an absolute fortune, as our premiums go up.

And they only take on cases that they know they will win.

With any reputable solicitor they will advise you if you are likely to win, and then you have the choice to go ahead or not. If you do win, then the other side still pay your legal fees.

So the results, and costs are no different to you.


Many of them also use inexperienced solicitors, so there is a good chance that you won't get the same amount as you would with an experienced solicitor. But the no win no fee company doesn't care, because they still get the same fee.
