But some people think some are willing to pay, and others disagree - a poll would show peoples' potential intentions, surely?

Ain't you slightly trying to move the goalposts as in your earlier posting you just stated why don;t we have a poll to see if people wanted more HD channels so thats what l did but feel free to change the wordings of the poll questions if you want to Hugh.

But as Mr Henke said "who would turn down extra HD channels if they are offered?"; it's a (mostly) no-brainer, as HD crap content is still crap content, so I wouldn't be interested in that.
However, asking if people would be willing to pay for it, would surely provide an appropriate measure of support for paying for extra HD?
It's like asking "would you like some chocolate?". Most people would answer "yes" (not counting diabetics and dieters). If you asked "would you like some chocolate, but it will cost your £3?", you might get a different answer.....
btw, my request for a poll was in response to the post above mine, which mentioned a price

UKTV's planned channels are three HD versions of existing SD channels, and will see Watch HD and Dave HD launch in 2011 and Alibi HD in 2012. The new HD brands will likely follow similar strategies to their parent channels, with Watch HD and Alibi HD launching on pay TV platforms in basic HD packages and Dave HD launching FTA. Freeview, which provides UKTV with its greatest channel reach, is not a particularly attractive platform for HD rollout, forecast to support only 424,000 HD homes by end of year 2011. To reach a significant audience therefore, any new FTA HD channels must launch on satellite and hit the 1m Freesat HD subscribers and 4.5m Sky HD subscribers and Virgin have about 1.8 million HD subscribers as well.

Why aren't all channels HD these days?
SD is so black and white.

Not true at all. Many people are buying new HDTVs but not all of them will view HD on it.
I know for a fact my parents and most older people do not cae about HD.

But if your TV/set-top box does that, why buy an HD channel?
