Re: New Traffic Management updated
Wonder what planet this traffic management is from. Customers in non-upload upgraded areas have higher downstream allowance during the evening than those in upgraded areas, 5GB vs 4.2GB, and in upgraded areas it's the same allowance upstream as downstream.
No wonder capacity planning is so shot if they think the network can handle the same capacity drain upstream as down.

Re: New Traffic Management updated
I got it confirmed by Mark Wilkin on the VM forums that the 30Mb DS allowances are correct.
Why would they give more when your upload speed has not been increased then when you get your upload speed increased they lower it. Are virgin intentionally trying to annoy their customers?

Re: New Traffic Management updated
it defenitly shows they incompetant on network management, as that upload figure is very high. STM is flawed anyway as in the person is only marked for 5 hours so can repeat the next day and that it takes many hours of uploading before it kicks in.

Re: New Traffic Management updated
So me on 50Mb/5Mb only gets STMed on uploads of over 6gigs!
I thought to myself - "Whose going to upload over 6gigs in one session?" then it occurred to me - backups. But you don't backup over 6gigs everyday so the STM for the XXL is just lip service to the rest of the tiers to show they are doing it across the board.
Yay. Still a great service, and not getting a price increase in April.

+1. It's completely fair, I don't see why people complain. They need to do some traffic management or surely the congestion will cause more problems anyway ?

Re: New Traffic Management updated
Given how pants the upload speed has always (until recently anyway) been with this ISP, and that they can see how folk have been using the improved upload, they're probably hoping it'll be a minority of customers that will actually bother to cane it.
I for one am happy to be in the minority

Re: New Traffic Management updated
VM need to ensure that the correct information is given as it is confusing their customers: both links below are for the upgraded areas.
One shows 4200MB for 30Mb and the other shows 5000MB as I suspect it should be rather than getting less once upgraded seems mad:
http://www.virginmedia.com/images/tm-table-fu-large.jpg <<< shows 5000MB DS allowance
http://shop.virginmedia.com/help/tra...r-uploads.html <<< <<< shows 4200MB DS allowance
Both are essentially the same table for faster uploads...
I have sent a PM to Mark_Wilkin on the VM forums for clarification on this

Re: New Traffic Management updated
It's already been clarified. The reduced 4200MB allowance is correct.

Re: New Traffic Management updated
Hi Guys,
Im on XXL (50MB) and have been since it was out in my area (rg12)
I got a letter this week from Virgin due to "detrimental use of your broadband connection"
i called up and they couldnt offer me any advice in terms of limits etc as it all depends how many people are connected in my area
so one day i could download 100GB and not bother anyone
the next day download 5GB and get another letter.
The only reason i hit the cap was i was moving a lot of files from an online backup solution to my new NAS and as i was going away for the weekend i set it going and left the house.
I asked if the dates i were away are what generated the letter and they said they couldnt say but did say i used it a lot in that time.
all this is just downloading.
So going by the charts linked in this thread i shouldnt have a limit..or am i reading it wrong? normally i am a good boy and have been for 11 years since getting a cable modem.
I purchased a
