you also do not recommend a 80 quid psu to replace a 250 watt in a basic computer thats 4 years old. Think you need a bit more experience mate cuz you obviously have little in the real world of computers

Re: Dell Dimension 9200 Power Supply

There is no way that for a PC over 4 years old that an expensive well guaranteed PSU is worth the money. It would be worth more than the rest of the PC components combined. Give it another year or two and no doubt the PC would be consigned to the scrap heap. Indeed the owner had already expected that outcome before I said that it was just the PSU which even if I pushed the boat out could be renewed for well under £40.

Re: Dell Dimension 9200 Power Supply

To update, I ended up fitting an Antec 380W PSU http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/prod...==&id=MjIyNA==

It was slightly narrower than the standard Dell PSU at 86 instead of 97mm. And only 2 of the four mounting screw holes lined up on the Dell case, but hey it fitted and the cables had plenty of length to get to the remote parts of the case. I suspect I could have found a cheaper generic or unbadged PSU if I'd looked around. Quite a few though had fans mounted on the top or bottom, rather than the end, and that wouldn't have worked with the way the PSU had to fit the case.
