not forgetting, of course, that they must also continue to trade in PetroDollars and not try to make more profit by converting trade to another currency. we all know what happened to the last supplier who tried to move away from the PetroDollar....

The fact is that alternatives of power and fuel need finding and research needs doing long before we get to the state where we invade to steal resources.Despite my misgivings I'm sure most governments of developed countries have been thinking long and hard about the possibilities for some time.
Yep.... Nothing like a couple of Neutron Bombs exploding over cities to sort out your energy needs, and access to what may well belong to someone else.

I'm glad someone has faith in our government's long term outlook, personally I think they're all going to be overwhelmed by future energy problems. We are a society in denial, it will take a big shock to make people change their ways. It's human nature.

Wibble....

I wonder why the US didn't invade Saudi Arabia then, as most of the hijackers were mostly Saudi nationals.....

Re: US military warns "we're running out of oil".

The trouble is we are slowly but surely moving towards the 1:1 factor whereby it takes the same amount of energy to extract a barrel of oil as is used by the extracted/processed product.
We use, or should i say current demand according to OPEC is ~85.21 Million barrels per day (around a quarter of this is used by America), this is nearly 1 Million more than last year and as it is becoming harder and harder to find and recover (the days of easy oil are nearly over) other sources are going to have to become a viable alternative.

Saudi Arabia still has a hell of a lot of the stuff but they are pumping seawater into the fields to keep the pressure up at the well heads, this is having a detrimental effect on the usable oil left.

IMO we need to explore ways of using coal/gas to liquid in a far more economical way than at present, there is still plenty of coal and gas in the ground and the majority of it is in pretty stable regions.
The reliance on oil as our major energy source is not going to last forever, suitable alternatives need to be found.

This is quite a good read for anyone interested in this subject: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0324225511.htm

Re: US military warns "we're running out of oil".

lol - some of the responses are so typical. another bloody witch hunt and numerous posts regarding tin hats. don't you lot ever get bored of yourselves? it's almost instant linching of anyone who airs a view that contradicts the mainstream...

****DISCLAIMER****
now I'm not saying there is or isn't a conspiracy, nor am I saying that there ever has or hasn't been, but at least I don't gang up and begin the ritualised mocking and fool-calling... grow up. it's the same thing every single time. let people say what they feel without the fear of being branded a madman straight away. have you got your sharpened sticks yet? I'd hate to have the first ET contact happen to some of you lot - I worry you might just stone it on site.

Re: US military warns "we're running out of oil".

But you appear to be acting under the assumption that all viewpoints are valid and should be treated equally - I disagree.

If someone states "if you jump from a twenty-storey tower block without any flight aids or some safety equipment to keep you safe, you'll be all right", I wouldn't give that the same weighting as someone stating "you don't want to be doing that, you'll kill or at least severely injure yourself".

But, as has been so often said, people have the right to state their viewpoint - I reserve the right to disagree, sometimes in a light-hearted manner.
