I think Virgin seriously need to rethink their pricing strategies. Giving a new customer a discount for three months or even six to me is fair, but having no real comparative prices is a real pain for the same services.

The loyalty discount doesnt actually look like a loyalty discount at all, not even a discount, its the price you save by getting a bundle. A bit naughty if you ask me.

If they say you can buy 'three for £30' and then on your bill it says £51 less 'loyalty discount' of £21, that to me shouldn't even be on your bill. It should just be the £30.

If the price for a bundle that I want is £49 online, then thats what I should be charged. Any 'new deal' discounts should be on top of that.

Am I right?
You are right.

After adding up the numbers, going on the Virgin site and building my own bundle as a new customer (just upgrading my BB) XXLBB, XLTV, PHONE M, PAPER BILL it comes to £61.75

This is Extactly the same figure i was quoted over the phone by the lovely Indian Lady. Which means all my loyality savings and BBXL for the price of BBL have gone out the window.

After hearing about the prices cuts in effect from today it just seems a bit crazy that I've still got to pay an extra £11 a month to have 50MB BB!!

Loyality doesn't pay off now with Virgin it seems.........

Re: 50MB Broadband now just £18 per month

Sigh! Been on the phone to Virgin today, thought I'd regale you all with the info I managed to get out of them. I'm currently on 10Mb for £25/m, and phone line for the usual £11/m, but with an £8/m discount for having phone and broadband together. I can't remember exactly how or when I got the discount applied, but it was probably after Virgin/NTL screwed something up and I complained.

Anyway, I got through to a very stupid sounding woman today who advised that an upgrade to 50Mb would cost me an extra £11/m as I would lose my discount, plus the extra £3. I can cope with that, so said I would go for it. She then said she would order me the kit and have it sent out to me. I asked if there were any installation or activation fee, she said there wasn't. I also asked if an engineer needed to fit it or if I could do it myself, she said the latter. I was dubious as she didn't seem to on the ball, but I was glad it had gone so smoothly.

I then continued reading, as one does, and came across a couple of posts on here saying that self installs of 50Mb are not possible as the engineer needs to transfer you to the new DOCSIS 3.0 standard.

I then called Virgin back again, and got through to a much more intelligent sounding guy who straight away noticed that the previous agent had charged me a £20 activation fee without telling me, and had also booked an engineer for a visit next Tuesday, again without telling me. I then queried the price, and he said the 50Mb is £45 standard fee, with a discount applied whether you take a phone line or not, albeit slightly higher or lower. Now I'm totally disillusioned. On the one hand, he sorted out the previous agents mistakes, then quoted a totally arbitary price for the 50Mb BB.

Me thinks I will be calling Virgin again tomorrow to see exactly what has been put on my account.

I think I got the same woman.

When they say loyalty discount, it doesnt actually mean a loyalty discount does it?!

Crazy.

If you get an £8 discount of the £25 for BB L that means you are paying £17 for BB L on top of the phone line rental

BB XXL cost £28 (£45 - £17) on top of the phone line so of course it is an £11 change

Yes they will have, because they only apply to your existing services. Change the services and the discounts are replaced with the current discount for the services

Nope. If you want XXL it would be another £8 on top of that (plus install/activation)

Ah thought the website was must have been wrong.

In all honesty I've always found the VM website to be one of the most confusing to navigate.

Whats this about? When I click on the link it just takes me to the usual page that shows its £50...

What do I need to do to get it for just £18 per month?

---------- Post added at 23:20 ---------- Previous post was at 23:19 ----------

Just gave them a call... Haha, what a joke that was.

The lady on the other end of the phone line did not understand what I was asking(!). Told her that it says on the website that its now been reduced to £18 per month but she said it hasnt.

She said that the £18 per month was for new customers only blah blah blah.

I asked her, if I was actually a new customer, could I take this offer now, she said no as its a misprint and the £18 per month is for new customers only?

Strange, SO, apparently... The £18 is for new customers only, but its a misprint so you cant get it, even if you was a new customer. Work that one out.

I guess I will have to wait till tomorrow and call again and speak to a UK based person.
Hopefully the VM quotient will be lower the next time your ring!

Re: 50MB Broadband now just £18 per month

The main broadband page lists XXL BB at £28 a month. The existing customer upgrade page lists XXL BB at £45 a month.

I'm assuming that the real price of XXL BB is £45 and that anyone taking the £28 deal will actually be signed up at £45 then given a discount to make it £28?

Re: 50MB Broadband now just £18 per month

Yes - that is exactly right.

The minimum discount you will get when you take out XXL with a phone line is £17

£45 - £17 = £28
