To upgrade to the upper tier of 10Mb is less than the cost of having a coffee in Starbucks once a week.

More of a technical question: will all those 2Mbit configs be upgraded to 10Mbit configs?

They will have a different config as they use a lower trigger for STM.

Free 2 to 10 upgrade

I have just tried to pre register for this FREE upgrade, when I do I am
informed that you do not know what package I am on please ring 0845 4541111,
this I do and eventually I am put through to sales in the West Midlands from
the Indian call center I originally connected to. The sales person tells me
my Modem is in my STB and I would need a Stand Alone Modem could I fit the
Modem myself if they were to send it, this is no problem, she then informs
me that I will have to enter into a new contract for 12 months, why is
this?, I thought I was being offered a FREE upgrade from 2 to 10 meg, but it
appears there are conditions applied. I have decided not to enter into this
new contract, does make you feel like trying another provider. I know I will have to pay another £2 per month and had accepted this but I do not want a new 12 month contract, how can this be called a Free upgrade, is this sales person correct in saying I will have to enter into a new 12 month contract.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

Salesperson is correct to say you will get another contract. And it is also correct to say the upgrade is free because the monthly cost won't change when you upgrade. You may not enjoy being forced onto a new contract in return for taking up an offer but it's hardly news - Virgin Media and its predecessors have been doing this for years, as have all the mobile phone companies. There are far more sinister practices out there at the moment (such as BT, which on certain packages automatically puts you on a new 12 month contract every year, so there's only one day in every 365 when you can switch away from them without penalty ... not nice at all).

Unless you have reason to think you'll be moving home in the next 12 months I wouldn't worry about it. Cable broadband, when it works, is a far better product than ADSL. You already know that you have a stable cable broadband service as you are using it right now. You don't know how well ADSL will work at your home.

Better the devil you know, I say.

If you move from STM to a modem it is NOT a new 12 month contract

No, but taking the free upgrade from 2meg to 10meg IS, isn't it?

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

Why is this customer being told otherwise then? Are there any upgrade deals on at the moment that result in a new contract?

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

Most bundles are recontracting (though that may be changing)

Only thing I can think of is the OP has been put on BB L instead of BB M

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

Did I just enter into a new 12 contract by ordering the new modem which it told me I needed

It didn't say ANYWHERE of entering a new contract

If this is true, then just aswell we don't wanna get rid of VM yet, so mum won't kill me

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

I am even more confused now, I am under the impression that all 2meg users will be upgraded automatically in the fullness of time, does this mean that if I do not pre register and wait for the auto upgrade then when I am upgraded I will then be automatically on a new 12 month contract that I have not asked for. Also were does the £2 increase come into this?
Thanks for all your replies.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

There is no way Virgin would be able to get away with forcing people into a new 12 month term after a change they have decided to make! (nor would they try to do so)

---------- Post added at 20:25 ---------- Previous post was at 20:24 ----------

The £2 is a price change.

The upgrades are officially seperate
