Its my mates dvd player so its not here to test, Im just confused how a avi file can be different than another.
An AVI file is purely a container file that has encoded within it a video and an audio stream, the encoding of the video stream could be anything from mpeg4, xvid, divx and a few other encodings and the audio could be anything from VBR/CBR MP3, PCM, AC3 or a few other formats as well.

Think of it like a DOC file done in word 2003, the encoding within the file might be such that word'97 can;t open it even though it's still a DOC file.

If the AVI is a TV Show / Film off the Net its 99% chance its DivX or XVid. If you made the AVI off Camcorder & used other software like Ulead it could be Uncompressed AVI or other Codec.

Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Video_Interleave for more info on AVI.

AVI files use a "Codec" to compress that Video/Audio. Audio could be PCM, MP3 or others. Video can be one of MANY Codecs (like DivX, XVid, MJPEG, Cinepak & many others)

See this list: http://www.deskshare.com/Resources/a...ssion_AVI.aspx & http://home.earthlink.net/~malcolmha...o_formats2.htm
