The last time I did a risk assessment you had to be trained on the use of ladders at work, so if that's the case then according to Health & Safety you are responsible for you own health and safety and those who will be effected by your actions or omissions. Therefore it was his stupid fault for not checking the ladder.
Totally agree with you on the one. Unfortunately, it's now part of the compensation culture that we now have in this country.

Re: Annoying Adverts

The ads have been dire for years, why can't they make ads like they used too (years gone by, some of the ads were more entertaining than the programmes), as soon as there is an ad break I reach for the mute button (with few exceptions, new unseen ads), until the break is over.

The shouty (hardsell, agressive) ads, like cilit bang for instance, yes you are trying to sell us your product(s) (or service(s)), but personally these ads just make me avoid them like the plague.

The ones that keep copying off films (like currys: minority report), if you're going to do this, at least pick a recent film to imitate

Ads that use film scores (italian job, oliver, countless others), or singy ads (mccains, halifax), if you are going to do these then atleast write your own music, because some of us just remember the film (original group) instead of the poduct you are trying to sell us (the same goes for current films, who istead of writing their own soundtrack either, use music from other films, or retro music).

The neverending furniture, DIY, sale ads, that seem to be virtually all year round (probably showing my age, but), I remember when sales were only several times a year: January, Easter, Autumn, and Christmas, and actually had a finish day (unlike presently, where there always seems to be a last few days remaining).

These ads may be memorable, but, for the wrong reasons (annoyance rather than entertainment), and the only ones I would possibly use (if I were renovating) are the furniture, DIY ads (but personally the annoyances, just make me avoid them like the plague).

Re: Annoying Adverts

I'll second the Halifax singing employees ads as the most annoying in recent times, closely followed by any advert featuring Phil "Tuffers" Tuffnell.

In past times: that absolute whopper who practically threatened you if you didn't paint your flat roof with smelly gunk. "If your flat roof leaks, don't say I didn't warn you" - yeah right, say that to my face and you'll be on your backside before you can finish the sentence.
