You also need to use some punctuation IF you want anyone like me to read your stuff...and I'm not prepared to waste any more time trying to do so.

It really riles me that a means of communication I.E. the mobile phone, has found a way to render communication impossible.

I couldn't agree any more with Incognitas if I was filled full of an agreement enhancing drug and strapped to an electronic agreement machine...or something...

This is something that really irritates me about this country lately. The younger generation can't seem to get it through their thick heads that being able to type and speak properly will not only get them further in life but will also ensure future generations don't grow up to be completely retarded, intelligence wise.

I play World of Warcraft, and I see it a lot there too, but the stupid thing about it is that right now, the foreigners (French, German, Scandinavian, and so on) all type better English than the English people playing the game.

Their text may have a few spelling mistakes, which the English are more than happy to jump all over (disgraceful AND hypocritical, to be honest), but the English people usually fill their messages with wiv's, u's, r's, dat's, red's and whatever other butchered tongue they can get their grubby little mits on, and claim it's because they did it on purpose...

There's even been reports in the news that kids are failing English exams because they're writing in text speak and can't understand how bad that is from an educators standpoint.

I'm 24, I'm only one year older than the guy who started this thread.

I'm dyslexic.

Do you see any severe spelling or grammatical errors in this or any of my posts? No, because even though I'm technically less proficient at typing and writing due to my dyslexia, I take extra care to make sure I type properly.

Someone once told me "Time is money" and that's why the younger generation is spelling like a monkey with a concussion because they have no time to waste on proper English. My response is "If time is money, good luck finding a high-paying job with English skills like that".

Any employer will just shred a CV with English like that.

Re: Virgin Capp Speed

This 3gb limit during peek hours an then your capped seems to be a joke.
On Thursday night i came home around 8pm an went onto my pc, as usual my speeds were around 5 - 10mb then at about 11.50pm i noticed my speed drop considerably. When i ran a few tests it became clear i was gettin 4.9mb dl an 256k upload, it appeared id been capped the funny thing was id only downloaded 1.2gb. I use bandwidth meter pro to monitor all my usage so i knew i hadnt gone past this 3gb limit.
date time download upload
2007-11-15 01:35:46 392.5K 28.4K
2007-11-15 01:35:47 327.0K 26.1K
2007-11-15 01:35:48 354.9K 20.0K
2007-11-15 01:35:49 321.0K 29.9K
this is taken from the bandwidth meter log.
So given i knew i hadnt exceeded the 3gb limit i phoned virgin to see why i had been capped and after speaking to a nice enough gentleman for about 10mins he asured me i hadnt been capped as he could clearly see i hadnt abused my usage ie broken the 3gb limit, He then ran a few tests on my connection like having me download from virgin servers and sure enough 4mb down an 256up was the best i could get, So he booked an engineer stating that there must of been a problem with my modem. Althought i didnt agree with his assessment i went along with it.
So i hung up an decided to watch bandwidth monitor over the next few hours to see what if anything happens, and to my surprise at 3.56am almost 4hours later my normal speed returned.
2007-11-15 03:56:34 43.1K 38.7K
2007-11-15 03:56:35 12.3K 1.8K
2007-11-15 03:56:36 20.3K 10.8K
2007-11-15 03:56:37 6.1K 2.8K
2007-11-15 03:56:38 444 108
2007-11-15 03:56:39 412 0
2007-11-15 03:56:40 207 54
2007-11-15 03:56:41 629 54
2007-11-15 03:56:42 1.10M 21.1K
2007-11-15 03:56:43 2.30M 42.3K
2007-11-15 03:56:44 2.05M 37.5K

So it is clear to me now that virgin clearly lies about its shaping and how an when people will be shaped. I have asked virgin to explain this but get passed form one person to another all of whom cant give me an explination an im told someone will call me back an surprise surprise they never do.
Now i am not like some on this form an go cryin everytime my speed drops to below 10mb, i happily accept they need to shape speeds durning peek times an even cap heavy users when they abuse there speeds but as its now clear to me they are also capping people at random without explination or good reason, so im not happy, an i beleive virgin is in breach of its own tos. I have logs from bandwidth monitor that clearly shows my usage an the shaping and as ive said virgin are unable or unwilling to explain or even talk about the matter. The matter is now being looked at by another authority.

Re: Virgin Capp Speed

I definitely subscribe to the idea that the cap fluctuates. Some days I'm capped after 500mb, other days after 1.2gb, it seems to vary.

So, in English if you please, does your internet get disconnected when you hit a certain limit? Do you then have to wait a day/week/month/year* to get reconnected so that you can start downloading again? (*delete as appropriate)

If I may be so bold as to hazard a guess I'd say your answer will be 'no'. You DO have unlimited download capability, it's just your speed that's capped for a period depending on your usage. Perhaps it may be wiser to kick off your downloads later at night and take advantage of the 'non-capping' times of the day so that your stress levels fall a little?

I know a lot of people that play WoW (is that allowed), quite a lot are adults in their 30/40s and because they've been playing for so long now, they now use a different language in real life, they don't just type in txt, they even talk it as well. So it's not all down to mobile phones.

Re: Virgin Capp Speed

I changed from the supposed 4Mb limit to the mightily impressive 20Mb yesterday, only to find that I'd been fleeced!!

They switched over at midnight at which point I managed to get a little closer to 10Mb than anything else. Please bear in mind that I've not done anything other than monitor my bandwidth with tests over this period so no downloads at all.

Here's the result in pictures that everyone can understand http://www.themininut.com/downloads/Bandwidth.jpg

This would equate to paying £20,000 for a car that's worth £5,000. I'm absolutely disgusted and will now be looked for other providers for broadband.

I will also continue to capture further information whilst I'm still with this dreaded service provider.

Not impressed

Re: Virgin Capp Speed

VM have been fleecing me since the day of the upgrade as my speeds are always so slow this is what my speed is at present which is only a guide.

Mon, 19 Nov 2007 20:09:48 UTC

Test 1: 1024K took 13969 ms = 73.3 KB/sec, approx 604 Kbps, 0.59 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 7390 ms = 138.6 KB/sec, approx 1142 Kbps, 1.12 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 15938 ms = 64.2 KB/sec, approx 529 Kbps, 0.52 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 32125 ms = 63.8 KB/sec, approx 526 Kbps, 0.51 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 700 Kbps, 0.69 Mbps

Needless to say it is the same with the modem connected direct and when I approached the members on the newsgroup they were very quick to blame my kit and not theirs. I can not wait for my 12 months to finish so that I can downgrade to get similar speeds as above and pay less.
