Have you got Netguard Total with firewall switched on?

Netguard Total with Firewall on.

Just occured to me that "file sharing" in this thread may mean things akin to Kazaa - in that case, I haven't tried that. Can share files between computers on my LAN without problems, all running XP Pro

Just read comments in another thread, I'll get my lappy out sometime and check file sharing in BOTH directions on lappy.

Re: Netguard - worth getting?

Got my laptop out and................Netguard prevents other PCs from seeing shared drives on local LAN. Daft really, advanced rules imply that files can be shared on local private networks, but only seems to allow outbound connections!! Netguard on both PCs obviously kills it.

Gone back to my other firewalls, Comodo and Filseclab, both freeware.
Left Netguard AV on laptop.

avg 7 free is fantastic anti virus!
I used to use sygate personal firewall but you have to pay now so ive been using comodo firewall lately i find this easy to use and its free, i think the windows xp firewall is decent, however you dont need a firewall if you have a router.
why have software firewall when you can use a hardware firewall,
what ever you do dont go near norton!!

Hi Ronnie,

Please do not rely on a hardware firewall on its own - that is a myth - yes its good to have one as a line of defence but you should ALWAYS have a good 2-way software firewall, I say 2-way because the Windows firewall is a 1-way and, again not recommended.

Interesting First Post...

A Hardware Firewall is OK as long as you 100% know that there is nothing running on your PC that will send nasties out (viruses, personal data, that sort of thing) best to be safe than sorry.
