Also, to add to that. I would also recommend using Javacool software ( http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/) products SpywareBlaster and Spywareguard to protect.

Re: What use is Adaware?
i don't think the setting in S&D is called tea time that's just the name of the program that runs when you select the otpion.. i think it's something like run s+D in memory to search all the time..
i'll have to check later when i'm back at home..
the search of the site is disabled at the moment as they are having server problems see this thread for details

Re: What use is Adaware?
Using Spybot's Advanced user interface:
Click "Tools", then "Resident". You will have two options
1) Resident: Blocks IE from downloading bad programs
2) Tea Time: Prevents programs from altering certain system settings.
Tick which of those you want..

Or just tick both As long as you run the update tools regularly on these yhings you should find your system stays cleaner in future. The golden rule is no matter what tools you use or who writes them you must keep them up to date for them to be useful to you

Re: What use is Adaware?
I reckon I will try the new Microsoft initiatives but I guess what is really needed is a selective cookie blocker as part of a spyware suite.....something that scans for spyware and shows you what has been found and then gives you the choice of disallowing it thereafter. This would mean that the majority of cookies would be allowed.
Is such a thing available? I've no idea.

But the first option only works for IE, as it says (not Firefox).

Better safe than sorry since Windows Update will launch IE

Re: What use is Adaware?
I tried the Microsoft offering. It seems quite comprehensive and it spotted some spyware on one of my computers and I was able to remove it.
Has ayone had further experience of it. It's called AntiSpyware (Beta). The way the blurb is written it sounds like the fully issued version will be chargeable but the Beta is free at least.
