BBking, the actual database comes straight from ntl. Its not a static database. Maybe ntl should update their database to reflect the fact it's "neither". If you can provide me with the Westminster postcodes that are in question, i'll see what I can do server-side.

I would check the list, but I actually live in (near) Bromley, so, er, don't really need to...

OK...call me thick, but how do you get to the ntl_region page from the home page?

There doesn't appear to be a link to it.

You cant get to it from the homepage. Its only meant for Cableforum users to use

In itself I dont think its worth creating another menu item for it.

Re: A useful little tool for you

How can a Glasgow postcode be Langley too? Clearly G73 is not Langley!

'Langley' is where the headend is that serves the areas that are refered to as 'original ntl' areas.

Areas that were originally Cable & Wireless franchises (like Manchester for instance), are served by the 'Bromley' headend

HTH.

Re: A useful little tool for you

Langley in this sense means the 'Langley Platform', DTV/BB in areas that were run by ntl before the 2000 merger. Areas that were run by Cable and Wireless are known as 'Bromley Platform'. Both are silly and misleading names, IMHO.

e.g.

Glasgow, Nottingham and Oxford were ntl before 2000, thus are Langley
Manchester, Leeds and Brighton were CWC before 2000, thus are Bromley.

Edit: Damn you Neil!

Updated the page to output "You are on the xxx platform", rather than "You are in the xxx area".

Cheers

Re: A useful little tool for you

OOOOOR

Alternatively when the NTL rep asks that question you reply "USE YOUR DAMN POST CODE CHECKER FOOL!"

It will give franchise area, CSR Centre (with internal and external contacts), faults centre (with internal and external contacts), and a whole lot more useful info!
