Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
There is no transparent cacheing enabled in Renfrew at the moment afaik.
As Mr Breath suggests.. can you ping the websites you're having difficulty browsing when they stop appearing?

Mr Breath! how polite
there are 9 renfrew cache servers... a couple may have been turned off for maintenance but i would be very very surprise if none of them were in use.
EDIT: I have tried the two sites mentioned in nor's first post using renf caches 1, 2 & 3 and can access them fine. Testing the other six was too much effort

None of them appear to be active - I know a couple of other people up there and they are routing direct. Oh, and atm, you don't seem to be going via a cache either MB.

Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
I can access all those sites fine aswell Mr Breath. Its only sporadically that I get the problem. Last time I got it was 19:20 yesterday. Hasn't happened since.
The problem being it never lasts more than 5-10 minutes so by the time I ring up NTL to get a BB tech to do some diagnostics its working again. I suppose when I get the problem I could stick in a proxy so I can access here, post that its not currently working and some kind person here could try out the renfrew transparent proxies. Its too much hassle for someone to goto though and it would be unlikely even if someone was keen to help that they'd read it in time to try it out.
Incidently its definately the 62 proxy I had been using Anyway, reckon its something I'll have to live with.

Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
I now have renfrew 1 proxy specified and will keep checking back onto one of the sites to see if it loads all the time. Pm me whenever it fails for you and i will try to get on it then if i can.

Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
Try not setting an explicit proxy, when one of them fails next, try pinging the site address, if that works ok then that should rule out network routing problems (providing they respond anyway).
If I'm about at the time I can have a nosey aswell.
As you say.. very annoying when the fault clears up before you can contact someone to dig deeper.

Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
Thanks fellas, very nice of you to offer to help. It hasn't gone down today at all incidently. About a month ago when the problem first cropped up it was happening basically every hour.

Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
Its happening now btw if anyone is around
[edit] Wasn't surfing so just caught the tail end of it. When I pinged one of the sites I was able to ping it fine, but then tried it in the browser again and it worked, so can't say catagorically that it wasn't reachable from the browser but pingable. Will try and be more vigilent next time

Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
Is it a proxy problem them Neil as the NTL techs say it isn't. Say if there was a proxy problem I'd not have access at all, wouldn't be intermittent.

Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
Pem said that you are not going through a proxy at the moment, so i can't see why it would be a proxy issue. I have also had no problems accessing the sites with renfrew 1 proxy specified. Have been trying on and off for the last 24hours.

Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
Its happening currently, lasting abit longer than usual. Typically customer service is shut gonna use my dv cam I reckon to show exactly whats going on, so they may believe me next time.
[edit] Cancel that, just fixed itself

I can assure you that the Renfew caches are currently turned off - but at the moment you appear to be using a Belfast cache - have you moved, or manually specified one ?

Re: Glasgow proxy problem ?
I manually specified it to get to the site so I could post. It was the one the BB tech gave me to use when I phoned. Feck knows why he gave me the belfast one but its been in my connection settings so not bothered changing it for a closer one since I only use it for 5 minutes when I can't get to sites normally.
