No, A good, balanced post that I agree with. I don't see why anyone would brand you a racist.

Re: Bnp
Before we get too carried away, here are some thoughts that I just found (slightly off topic):
Perceptions are stronger than fact (Make sure you understand this clearly)
If you show anger you will get no information
The problem with fools is that they can be so ingenious
Tolerance is not a one way street - if you expect it of me then so do I of you.
A goal is simply a dream with a time limit.
There's nothing worse than a collection of ignorant people with legitimate grievances.
The older I get the more I realise that any group of people larger than five has the collective IQ of a rock.
Everyone's mad except me and thee and I'm not sure about thee.
Turkeys will not vote for Christmas.
Do not argue with a spouse who is packing your parachute.
Rich bachelors should be heavily taxed. It is not fair that some men should be happier than others.
The more people I have contact with, the more I love my dog.
The further I get from man, the closer I get to God.
***
There is always a problem with morals and ethics and drawing lines.
I know a dozen fishermen who will let a trout fight its heart out against a nylon leader but who are proud of themselves because they have never shot anything in their lives. There's also a man I know who will shoot any bird that flies - ducks, geese, francolin, doves, you name it - but he feels quite moral because he's never killed a big animal like a impala or an inyala. I even know a biltong hunter who shoots his kudu every season but would never dream of murdering an elephant just for sport, he thinks that's terrible. But I also know an elephant hunter who wouldn't let a trout fight its heart out against a line.
We all draw different lines and then feel very moral about them.
RIGHTS
You do not have the right to a new car, colour TV, cell phone or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.
You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you cut off a limb with a power tool, learn to be more careful, do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all of your relatives independently wealthy.
You do not have the right to a job -- we all want one, but you have to work at it.
There are no rights, only permissions granted by some to others.
Some of those are relevant to this thread, the others I left in because they are relevant to this forum or just life

Re: Bnp
Danielf: Just experience really. If you ever take a view, which doesn't tow the extreme PC line, people will attack you, and brand you racist wether you are or not. I've tried to make it clear i'm not racist (one look at my sig would tell you that, but anyway). You can't be seen to defend racist people (nor say, sex offenders or murderers), wether you are or not. As Ramrod said: Perceptions are stronger than fact. Although, i'd replace "perceptions" with "emotions", for a better quote.
Ramrod: Some good quotes there.

lol....Everyone's mad except me and thee and I'm not sure about thee.....my fave.
On topic..Yes, we are a free open society but the bnp are not an open party, thus any member of the bnp has disqualified him/herself from positions such as teaching that require a reasonable level of impartiality because they are dealing with formative minds.
I am 'right wing' but even I think it's crazy to let such a person near a kids teaching post...thats just taking our liberal ideals dangerously too far

It's interesting, homosexual teachers managed to not discuss homosexuality for years because of clause 28 (think that's what it was, where local councils couldn't promote homosexuality, which indirectly meant that teachers couldn't talk about it), christian teachers are able to cope with teaching about evolution without any problems, but you don't think BNP teachers can teach history?

I'm 'left wing', and I value freedom of speech. If the BNP is a legal political party in this country, I don't see how membership of the BNP could disqualify someone from a teaching job (as much as I dislike the BNP).
I'm not saying he shouldn't be monitored. If he is inciting hatred/racism, fire him by all means, but the sheer fact he is a member of a political party that is allowed in this country cannot be a ground for firing him.
Look at the ramifications if we were to decide that affiliation with allowed political party x would disqualify you for post y. Where would it stop?

Why not. Are you trying to say he's a racist just because he's a member of this party. He may just believe like me there's far too many immigrants and asylum seekers being allowed on this Island and its time to stop it. Either way he sould not have lost his job just for being a member of this party

Hear hear!
Provided *ANY* teacher is not inciting hatred/ racism they should be free to join any (legal) political party or hold any (legal) opinions.
Again this seems to be an example of people wanting to pick and choose *who* has rights and who doesn't

Re: Bnp
I'm quite liberal (or is that "do gooder"? ), and libertarian.
I despise the BNP, & everything that they "stand" for. I think they are a bunch of ignorant racist bigots, using the "immigration card" & so on to play on people's fears.
But...they are a political party. And we live in a democracy. (well...elective dictatorship )
If this teacher has been suspended simply because he is standing for this particular party in an election, then that just doesn't seem right - no matter how odious the party's views are.
As long as he does not try to impose his political views on his students, & as long as he stays within the law wrt to inciting racial hatred & so on, then I do not see why he cannot continue teaching his students.

Wasn't aimed at me, but...True. I don't think he should have lost his job just because he is standing for the BNP at election.
But...
It does sound like he is a racist (rather than an "I'm not a racist I'm only in the BNP cos there's too many immigrants" type person)

On Mr Smith's personal website, which was closed after a contractual dispute last year, he wrote of the Holocaust: "The 'six million' and 'gas chambers' story is a lie - this sounds delusional when you first hear it - but investigate the matter for yourself."
The site was shut down in March after the search engine Yahoo claimed the domain name, www.yahho.co.uk was too close to its own.
An independent expert who ruled in the case said Mr Smith's site consisted "of inflammatory political materials espousing racist/anti-semitic/white supremacist views". The website included links to far- right groups as well as revisionist historian David Irving, Hitler's Mein Kampf and eugenics websites.

Re: Bnp
Just because he has joined the BNP is no reason for him not to teach, just because he is in the BNP does not mean that he teaches his or the BNP views on things to his students.
Just because he is in the BNP is no reason to suspend or sack him.
The BNP are a legitimate UK Political party & membership or supporting of it is not a crime.
There have been many people standing for the BNP that are no different to you or me, old ladies have stood & acted well throughout thier term.
From what I have been told, the BNP are not ALL bad, they do try to do some decent things in government, this media spread idea that all they think about is causing racial hatred & eating babies is exactly that, just a media spread load of bunkum.
If the members of the local counsils that are BNP members were allowed to actually get on with the job there would be a lot more happy people in Burnley, whereas there is a lot of resentment because of the unfair spending of the current & previous counsils.
What the majority of people know about the BNP is mainly only due to media or ANP spread information which is designed to make everyone in the BNP seemingly a child eating racist ex criminal.
BTW I am not in the BNP but I do live in Burnley, before anyone replies to this
