probably that e4+1 appeared at the bottom of the epg list, on the ex-cwc area. so you needed to move it into the right place.

145 here in orginal NTL area, so can I join the queue to get what Louey is on.
So if they've placed e4+1 straight after e4 in the original area, could we expect Sky One Mix on 141, or would that be too much common sense?

I don't know how it's done in Langley areas, but with CR3, new channels are automatically added to the bottom of your favourites list, regardless of the number. To put it after E4, either move it using the favourites menu (if you have custom ordering) or select 'reset list' or whatever the option is.

rant on/
Why, oh why, oh why is it soooooo difficult for ntl to put new channels in a sensible order? If they can put E4+1 on Ch 145 why can't any new channel be put in some sort of order? It gets right on my bloody nerves!
rant off/
I'm going back to hide under the sofa.

There are technical and logistic difficulties.
First of all, as the channel numbers are allocated centrally, it's impossible do change them one region at a time, as would be ideal. So basically the whole network has to be taken off-line whilst the numbers are changed (otherwise there's the possibility of two channels being sent with the same number, which would confuse the STBs no end). Then there's the fact that with CR3, the favouites system could leave everything in a complete mess, depending on how the channels are added.
Those are the two main technical difficulties I can think of, although I'm sure Proppinupthebar can add something here.
Then there's the fact that, since everybody's (at least, everybody on one platform) numbers have to be changed on the same day, it's going to lead to massive numbers of calls to CS. Even if NTL did a mailshot and Channel NTL promo advising people that it was going to happen (which would of course cost money), they'd still be deluged. So they'd have to get every single CS person in the country working, costing them a bomb in overtime.
In short, it's an expensive thing to do, and so people high-up in NTL aren't keen on doing it.

Thanks for the info
OK so the channel numbers are allocated centrally, so why didn't they allocate 'sensible' numbers in the first place? And whoever had the idea of putting the Front Row channels in the middle (200-300) should be shot - it's been like that ever since digital was launched in original areas. And I hate the fact that you've got p0rno channels next to some kids channels - what were they thinking?
It doesn't normally get to me this much, but it's chuffin' hot tonight!

Theres no way we would attempt to change all channels at the same time. The work involves some major database changes, not a good idea to try all at once. Also the changes will take quite a while to physically do.
It will be phased in. It is being looked at. It will cost us a pretty packet. Mainly in communication to Joe Public costs to avoid calls to CS. Each call to CS costs ntl money.
As for two channels on the same channel number, basically the first one the box finds gets the channel number and the other gets dropped completely. Which one of the two to be dropped would vary from region to region.

I'm not sure in the early days that anyone expected the number of channels to explode as quickly as they have. Also ntl now have to implement a common numbering system across the two platforms they now have.
As for Legacy Front Row, they are the only channels in the 200's.
Can't really justify Kids and Porn side by side, however if the kids are up at that time of night then they can always channel up to the porn channels eventually anyway. Most are PPV or subscription anyway.
