'Superhuman' Toronado delivers.

Richard Hannon admitted to a palpable sense of relief after Toronado lived up to every possible expectation in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Despite having not seen a racecourse for 300 days, much was demanded of the High Chaparral colt, whose connections could hardly have been more ebullient in the build-up to the meeting's curtain-raiser.

Be that as it may, the burden of expectation must have been oppressive for the Wiltshire handler, who was having his first Royal runner after his father, Richard Hannon snr, passed on the baton to become his son's assistant. The Hannons need not have worried. Toronado was outstanding.

Frankie Dettori got off the mark for the week as The Wow Signal justified his tall reputation in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The Starspangledbanner colt blitzed his rivals on his racecourse debut at Ayr last month and Malton trainer John Quinn was confident his youngster would not be out of place in Berkshire.

Sent off a well-supported 5-1 joint-favourite, The Wow Signal got off to a fast start and raced close to the pace from the start. Dettori coaxed his mount into the lead heading inside the final two furlongs and his rivals were unable to keep tabs on the northern raider as he galloped all the way to the line to take the Group Two prize by a length and three-quarters

John Gosden's globetrotting mare, third to Al Kazeem in the race last year, travelled sweetly into the race and found plenty when asked to quicken by William Buick.

Well backed at 11/2, the five-year-old was held up in fifth as Alkaayed set the pace - as expected - for Mukhadram, but the front-runner was largely ignored and spent most of the first three-quarters of the race eight to 10 lengths clear.

He ran out of petrol coming into the straight and it was patently obvious The Fugue, who was injured when beaten in the Dubai Duty Free in March, was travelling the best.

She produced when asked by Buick and went to the line a couple of lengths clear of Magician (6/1) and odds-on favourite Treve, who appeared ill at ease on much quicker ground than she had encountered when impressively winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe last October

Telescope turned in one of the best performances at Royal Ascot this week with a resounding seven-length success in the Hardwicke Stakes.

The Galileo colt has twice been thumped by Noble Mission this term, but made no mistake at the biggest show in town to give t rainer Sir Michael Stoute success in the race for an eighth time.

Just for good measure, the on-song Newmarket handler - who won the previous race with Arab Spring - saddled fast-finishing runner-up Hillstar in the Group Two contest over a mile and a half.

Treve has been undergoing tests since her return to France following her shock defeat in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Last year's brilliant Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner could only finish third behind The Fugue on Wednesday, having lost her unbeaten record at the hands of Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix Ganay on her seasonal debut.

She appeared not to move well to post in the hands of Frankie Dettori and looked ill at ease during the race, though she did stay on at the end of the mile-and-a-quarter Group One to take minor honours.

Australia is one of seven possibles for Aidan O'Brien in Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.

The impressive Epsom winner is likely to be a very warm order to emulate his former stablemate Camelot, who completed the Classic double two years ago.

Whereas O'Brien wants the rain to stay away for his new star, connections of Derby runner-up Kingston Hill will be hoping that the clouds open, although he will take his chance as long as the ground is not too fast.
