If you could drive past a police car on the motorway at 150mph without them attempting to stop you, how many people would drive at 70mph? You can hardly complain of ther morality behind something if NTL clearly don't care enough to do anything about it.

Using the newsgroups as an example I could download...
west wing vcd series 5 tv rip 15gb
smallville series 4 tv rip 9gb
I can then download suse linux...
suse 9.3 4gb
Maybe I want to buy half life 2 and download it via steam...
half life 2 from steam 4gb
So in total 32gb without any warez or dvd rips in site and there's plenty more where that came from on the newsgroups. If you maxed out the current 3mb connection you could probably do that in a day, on a 10mb connection it would take about 8 hours.

Has anyone any proof of ntl contacting the so-called heavy downloaders and wagging a finger at them
If other people's online activities aren't affecting your connection, then why should it bother you how they use their connection for

A couple of points.
In order to fully understand how people use the internet you have to allow them unrestricted use over a very lengthy period. This gives you valuable data to decide what pricing points and usage allowances should be.
NTL may not want to appear heavy handed by going after customers who exceed their usage allowance without having a means of checking what their usage is.

Well that's 24 Gb of illegal downloading for starters.

Other peoples use may not directly affect my usage of my connection but can result in increased costs for NTL which myself and all other customers have to pay for.

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
Right. I have just ordered 12 new 80gig hard drives so that I have somewhere to store the output of my new capped service for the year.
I can quite see where the moans come from, this is very restrictive.
Furthermore, apart from free dial-up a few years back, an upgrade from 512K to 600K, then to 750K then to 2MB at no extra cost, what have ntl ever done for me?
I am going to bed now, but rest assured I will be rejoining the throng with some totally wild and speculative pre-guesses as to what ntl may/may not/might/could/you are having a laugh thats outrageous/should/ought to do, tomorrow.

Re: ntl Confirms 10Mb Broadband Speed Increase
Not that I feel in need to explain my usage to anybody... but I'm a sucka for anything HD, and when you are downloading 2 or 3 films or programmes a week at 10gb each, a few DVDs a month, a couple of games a month, couple of lossless/mp3 albums, vent server, general internet crap (videos, browsing, one or two demos a month) it all adds up.
I could cry all day about why I can't buy all of this but whats the point, theres a warezer in all of us, when you are being offered something for free which you want, you usually take it. Morally, nobody cares and legally the law doesn't care, which as long as is the case, neither will I.
After looking at caps with other companies, ntl are semi lenient, the obviously understand that people want free **** but maybe have not grasped the idea that some people want to download huuuuge HDTV files - I guess the caps are all relative to how much you use. Whilst the caps do seem disproportionate to the speeds, anybody who needs more that 300gb is a dirty old sweaty market trader
Lets not forget people as ntl told us, Spiderman was available to download on the tinternet before the cinemas!!! :o

well lets see, streaming radio stations, streaming football, streaming music videos (launch.com)
just a few there, VOIP is coming along well, then there will be movie rentals to come.

no im not saying (it sucks), im merely pointing out that 75GB is a bit on the low side, ukonline has 300GB for 8mbit, i would prefer it to be about 150GB i think thats fair for both sides.

ntl look like they will offer 5Mb/s uncapped, as many people will only be able to get 4Mb/s max with ADSL ntl will be a better option.

Downloading TV rips is no more illegal than recording a tv show onto video but hey let me guess...you've never done that before
