The other one is for non-DOCSIS 2 CPE, probably older EMTAs.
Another thing they do is to use mixed mode channels, so a DOCSIS 1.1 modem will burst onto the channel at 16QAM, symbol rate 2.56Msym/s while a DOCSIS 2 or higher modem bursts at 64QAM, symbol rate 5.12Msym/s. The CMTS splits the modems between those that registered in each mode and changes the upstream type dynamically for their transmit periods.

Even if I worked for VM it would be in an engineering role and string pulling would be limited to discrete enquiries as to how things are going.
I should be upgraded but it was cocked up so it's late, it was taking ages anyway as VM had 3 months of work to do in this area and didn't start it until August, completing it in October if I remember.

Y'know, you've got me so distraught with the state of VM's network and their incompetancies that I sometimes forget there are other cable operators out there that actually have sensible and intelligent deployments...
P.S. So you say the actual physical upstream uplift upgrades have been completed in your area then. Any signs of it showing up on your modem? (I think I've mentioned I had a 3x.x Mhz upstream running for a few hours a month or two ago but nothing since)

Are you able to answer if they adding new channels for the bonding or they just bonding existing ones. As my area has 2 channels both high utilised, with me already on the lowest one I cant see what bonding them both will do for me, but I would genuinly look forward to a new empty channel been added to bond with my existing one.

Until it is posted on the Virgin Media website do not believe anything you have been told by anyone plus without a doubt the will be a rollout schedule as per the 100Mb rollout.

That isnt my area. I expect mine will be much later considering they not even done a 5th downstream channel yet and it cant even come close to handling 100meg never mind 200.

I mean any area not just yours, I expect it will be over about 18 months as with the 100Mb rollout if not longer.
