Re: [Merged] Football talk

This is why it was classed as violent conduct - any strike to the face is seen as such. An automatic 3 match ban is correct. Rooney chose not to appeal and that's probably the most sensible idea he's had. But SAF really needs to clamp down on his ill-discipline hard.

One of the issues in my mind is what's the point of the fourth official? I know he's there in case the ref gets injured, but why can't he advise the ref in cases like this - all in all, it's a good case for some form of technological back up.
the forst offical is just there to justify the 20- 30 grand they get paid each year.. they do nothing really except hold up the board and come on if the ref gets injured. i'm not even sure if they are in cahrge of the timekeeping i think the ref relays that to the forth official before it is displayed.

I've never throught that board for extra time was any good anyway.. in the first half you always get 1 or 2 minutes. In the second half they are supposed to add on 30 seconds for each sub.. if all three by each team are made in the second half that is 3 mins so when they show a board with 2-3 it means they are saying there was no time wasting or injury time just the subs..

on the subject of TVs it's still a delicate issue.. would you also use it for diving etc or just diving when in the box.. not only that i've seen loads of incidents where people have been barely touched and i've thought they were acting and then they've been taken off and missed a few games.. take Giggs from the last match.. if that had happened from a tackle and he'd rolled on the floor afterwards.. if i was the forth official watcing on TV i'd say that was acting \ simulation and ask the ref to book him even though he's know out for a few games..

Until we get players beinh more honest there isn't much we can do

Solution to Man United's striking crisis?

Quote:
Meanwhile, Spanish League leaders Barcelona crashed to a surprise 3-0 defeat at the hands of Villarreal.

Former Manchester United striker Deigo [sic] Forlan scored twice as Barca's lead at the top of La Liga was cut to seven points.
I don't recall old Forlorn troubling the disciplinary authorities much. Or the scorers, for that matter.

Is this the same SAF who sherer thought would make WR 'improve and calm down abit'? The poor old boy doesn't appear to be having much of an effect, it seems he's left the lad's education to Roy Keane.

Face it, Rooney is scouse, ugly, dense, ill-disciplined, cheats and has shocking taste in women. Shame, really, if he applied himself and his talent he could be one of the all-time greats.

Ah yes, apart from when he scored both goals in United's 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield 3 years ago. I mean, if you're going to rediscover your old form at any club on a single occasion, who better than against the Scousers (apart from the Arse of course)

oooOOoooo we are bitter tonight aren't we? He's only been at the club 6 months, you really think a 19 year old is going to change so quickly, especially when he's had little or no discipline in the past? I know it's standard for Arse supporters to have dillusions of grandeur but I think that's a bit much, don't you??

And Rooney is all the above? Nothing to do with the fact he scored to SMASH Arse's unbeaten run? Not bitter at all are we??

Oh I love it when Arse fans accuse other players of being ill-disciplined and a cheat

We have the worst disciplinary record in the country and I'm the most anti-ill-disciplinary person you'll meet, well in a football sense anyway.

Clough's legacy, RIP...

Well yes, you have a point about the fair play award - it's about time something like that was done - the Arse were getting very close to unfairly labelled a bunch of cheats, and that's SO wrong isn't it??

And as for what you say about Rooney? You, Arsenal, talking, out of...

I'm so under-whelmed by Megson it's untrue. Time to get some deep heat for the neck methinks. The only positive I can draw is he may by some fluke manage to kick Doughty out...

[as for the avatar, Forest in the summer asked the question the other way round, ie we're serious about promotion are the fans, as an attempt to get season ticket sales higher and to justify yet another rise. But Doughty is a twit and a cheapskate and like **** he's ever going to get ambition for the club]

I always though Forlan would do quite well in La Liga.. he had the skill and also thumped in good winners against Chelsea and Villa as well as those goals against Liverpool.. just wasn't very good with the speed and physical side of the English game.. with more time on the ball in Spain he can use more of his skill.. Watch him at international level and he is good as well..

Rooney needs more time to change although at the moment I can't see any signs of it true... Trouble is his first game for us was too good and he hasn't quite got to that level since

Ill-discipline can be worked on, look at Alan Smith in tha last couple of years. As for cheating I suppose you mean diving as ever player cheats. I don't like to see anyone dive but it should be a league initiative to stamp this out.

As for being scouse, ugly, dense and having shocking taste in women I can't really see what point you are trying to make, how will any of these affect his football? Or are you just having a dig?

The fair play award by the FA is subjective as they award points for things like positive play and then take points away for yellow/red cards. So therefore with Arsenal having an amazing season last year, going unbeaten and scoring a lot of goals they would have acculated a large number of points for positive play. Therefore with them having such a large total gives them a big advantage over other teams when points are deducted. Same as when Man Utd won the award in their treble year.

Now if we look at another fair play table that awards points solely on cards it tells a different story.

Last season Arsenal ended up ranked joint 8th while Man Utd were join 2nd
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/stats/f...r=2003&cc=5739

This season you are currently joint 11th while Man Utd are 1st
