I've had a rethink overnight and decided to.stay with Virgin on the XL I'm not bothering with sky sports and movies or HD charge. Just hoping ESPN America HD appears free on XL.

Good news - Sky Sports HD 1 and 2 and Sky Movies HD are launching on 2nd August! You can order them now and they'll be ready for you on the launch day.
And it gets better. You can get them for just £7 extra a month! You can pre-order them now and you won't be charged until they've launched on 2nd August. Just so you know, it will be £7 for each HD set top box you want to watch them on.
Don't forget, to watch Sky Sports HD 1 and 2 and Sky Movies HD, you'll need to subscribe to the standard Sky premium channels. You'll also need an HD ready TV and set top box - that's either a V HD Box or V+ HD Box and an HDMI cable.

I think they should say - it gets worse, it will be £7/month

How do you think the above statements would go down with the public? Just because SKY done/do it, does not make it right. The Govt should look into this practice. How can anyone justify this form of theft. Thats exactly what "PER BOX" is.

Well I'm going to phone us CS and see if they are doing any deals. I'm VM all over the place, landline, mobile, VIP etc.... I would have thought they would have some leeway in their pricing structures.

When you try and book the HD channels on line it doesn't work. You click buy now and get blank screen

On the price comparison bit at the bottom, they state that the "Top TV" package costs £23.00, when they charge £24.50.

I have been following this thread about the rumours, the prices, the moans and groans lol

my view is that those that arent prepared to pay for the Sports and movies in SD or HD then simply dont, i dont have movies or sports becuase i am not a sport buff, i do like the movies however in the past i have seen endless repeats and how many of us who have bought films on vhs, dvd, bluray have actually watched the same movie 3 times in 1 month, i know i haven't, thinking about it most of my dvd collection i havent watched in years - maybe time to ebay them lol

I find the films on e4hd and film 4 are good, ok they have ad breaks but its free, and with the launch of film 4 hd today even better...

I do agree with people that £7 per box is excessive and should be like anything you sub to you get on both boxes or any box within the house.

Also i have 2 young children and watching any film is not an option as i would rather spend the sub money on them and having days out with my kids or given them small treats now and again rather than been glued to the box watching films in hd that i have already seen anyway on dvd.

Any film i really really wanted i would just buy on bluray.

I am glad virgin media have been up fron on there pricing though and no hidden costs at least you know where you are with them unlike sky.

it is good news that more hd channels are on the way apart from the hd sports and movies.

but remember if you hear a rumour just wait till we here from virgin media direct rather than having endless pages on a forum about the rumours, or set up a seperate thread called virgin media rumour mill that would be better than over haul media boys coming soon thread

As has been discussed ad nauseam before, that price is the 'discounted' price within a bundle with other services. TV XL shows as £24.50 on EVERYONE'S bill before discounts are applied.

people really need to understand the £7 charge is one that has been set by Sky so there is nothing that VM co do about it.

Blame OFCOM for allowing Sky to do that and for only including Sky Sports 1 and 2 HD and then wondering why Sky didn't offer the others to VM as well.

if you are unhappy about the charge complain to OFCOM as they are the only ones that can do anything about it.

What part of £10 for 43 HD channels is hidden

Compared to VM - No Monthly HD Fee, except for an additional £7/per box for the HD channels that the majority of the VM customer base has been waiting several years for.

For those that are angry/disappointed/...... with this charge to get HD premium channels, the way forward is simple.

Compare costs for your requirements across the various suppliers and choose the package that suits you.

There's no point in getting upset with Virgin Media if the cost is the same or more for your requirements with Sky/BT Vision/......
