Leading owners Middleham Park Racing are confident of finally breaking their Group One duck as the exciting Toormore heads to Ireland for today's Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh.

The winner of a Leicester maiden before claiming Group Two honours in the Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, Richard Hannon's juvenile was something of a surprise contender for this weekend's seven-furlong prize when the entries were released on Monday.

Kizuna just edged out Ruler Of The World in a tremendous finale involving two Derby winners in the Qatar Prix Niel, the first of the three Arc trials, at Longchamp.

It was Japanese Derby hero Kizuna who got the verdict on the nod over Epsom victor Ruler Of The World in a tight finish.

Despite having endured a troubled passage to the line, Ryan Moore brought the Aidan O'Brien-trained colt with a late run and there was just a whisker in it, with the Shozo Sasaki-trained Kizuna, ridden by Yutaka Take, getting the verdict by a short head in a photograph.

Voleuse romps to Irish Leger glory

Voleuse De Coeurs, trained by Dermot Weld and ridden by Chris Hayes, easily won the GAIN Irish St. Leger at the Curragh.

The Lady O'Reilly-owned filly hacked up under her talented pilot to take the Group One over a mile and three-quarters in impressive fashion.

Ahzeemah, the 7-2 favourite, finished second, while Saddler's Rock was third.

Weld, who was winning the Irish St Leger for a seventh time, said: "She ran a good race here in the Trial, and I knew she'd improve from that.

Toormore took his unblemished record to three with an emphatic all-the-way win in the Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh.

Richard Hughes bounced the Richard Hannon-trained colt out of the stalls and set the pace he wanted.

The even-money favourite asserted a furlong to win from his main market rival Sudirman, with Giovanni Boldini third.

Tim Palin, racing manager for Middleham Park, said "We weren't sure whether to make the running or not beforehand but he ended up getting a fairly uncontested lead. He's a great attitude and the further he goes the better he is.

Treve came from a difficult position to land an impressive victory in the Qatar Prix Vermeille at Longchamp.

Frankie Dettori gave her a confident ride, but she had plenty do in the straight after Tom Queally had set sail for home on Wild Coco at the top of the straight.

However, Dettori weaved his way through on Criquette Head-Maarek's filly (11-10 favourite) to head Wild Coco in the last half a furlong and pull clear. Tasaday was third.

Dettori said: "It's brilliant. She's the first decent horse I've ridden for a while.

Racing gathers to celebrate Cecil.

Figures from across the sport of Flat racing gathered in Ely Cathedral on Monday afternoon to celebrate the life of Sir Henry Cecil.

The huge Gothic structure, which looms over the Fens, was a building Cecil admired and it was chosen by his widow, Lady Jane, as a fitting venue for his remembrance.

The legendary trainer died after a long and dignified battle against cancer on June 11 and had a private family funeral at St Agnes Church in Newmarket. His body was laid to rest at his ancestral seat of Crathes Castle in Aberdeenshire.

A fitting tribute to a great man.

Andreas Wohler has admitted to being impressed by several performances in the three trials for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday.

The German trainer is responsible for Novellist, who had been joint-favourite with some bookmakers for the Paris showpiece on October 6 and had his prep race at Baden-Baden two weeks ago.

However, it was all change in the ante-post market after the runs of Orfevre in the Prix Foy, Treve in the Prix Vermeille and Kizuna and Ruler Of The World in the Prix Niel.

Dunaden and Green Moon, winners of the last two Emirates Melbourne Cups, head the weights for this year's renewal at Flemington Park on November 5.

The Mikel Delzangles-trained Dunaden has been alloted 58.5kg (9st 3lb) by the handicapper following his 2011 success, while Robert Hickmott's Green Moon, who struck gold 12 months ago, has been given 57.5kg (9st 1lb).

Freddie Head reports Moonlight Cloud to be in fantastic shape ahead of her next outing at Longchamp.

The five-year-old is on course for the seven-furlong Qatar Prix de la Foret on October 6 after a busy week at Deauville where she followed up a third successive win in the Prix Maurice de Gheest with victory in the Prix Jacques le Marois.

Trainer Johnny Murtagh will discuss with owner Andrew Tinkler where to run the seven-year-old next after he finished fifth in Sunday's renewal of the stayers' Classic at the Curragh.

Royal Diamond, who was given 54.5kg (8st 8lb) in the race that stops a nation on November 5, had beaten Irish Leger winner Voleuse De Coeurs in his previous race.
