Yep, there is a front audio (presumably for the mobo onboard sound). No loose speaker came with the case or mobo.
The case has 6 usb's on the front...........producing 3 usb plugs but there is only provision for two usb plugs on the mobo (one of which I have already plugged an extra rear usb plate/game controler into)

by rights the case will have supplied you with a speaker either on the case or a seperate one would have been in your fitting kit?

The mobo manual includes details of a 'winbond voice editor' that enables you to customise the post error messages (if you want to) this editor appears to work from within windows so that implies that the post error messages use the connected PC speakers (or headphones)

thats sounds logical ive only ever used one asus with it and i forgot to plug my keyboard in i nearly soiled myself when it starting saying keyboard not detected lol lol you have to get to post first though and you need drivers for sound cards to work? http://uk.asus.com/products/mb/postreporter.htm but it dont say where it speaks from lol

Yep, looks about right. If you connect them wrong (i.e. the wrong way round) it simply won't work properly. I, too nearly soiled myself when I plugged in the power/reser switches the wrong way round and they wouldn't work.

However, after a bit of switching around, I finally got it going.

if you had hit reset the pc would have booted lollol only message leds(ide and power) need to have the polarity correct the reset and power switch just closes a curcuit for a second which boots pc when ive had faults or older boards with no idea what lead goes where ive used a screw driver to find the right jump (dont tell anyone lol lol )

Hi rammy, no this is not the case....

It uses the onboard sound to play a voice in the event of a fault (my p4p800-e does it too.....) and because its such an annoying american voice, you can edit it

Thats all, it tells you if you have faults such as graphics card ram etc.... its not a post beep system (similar function, but the speaker beeps)

You will only here the spoken version if you use the onboard sound (unless theres a way to pipe to the audigy that i cant find :S

in that case in the unlikely event the pc wont boot just unplug audigy and plug speakers into onboard sound

but that would mean it needs to be enabled in bios...... which means it will also be operative in windows etc........ There must be a way to pipe the damn thing......

we are talking about problems at post are we not? if the pc wont post then bios has not detected the sound or anything,you only need a fault detector if theres a fault i would imagine its enabled in bios by default or it would be useless if theres a fault when first switched on

No were talking about ramrod building his new machine, and his post speaker not being there etc...

But when he puts his audigy in, he will be advised by ALL on here to disable the onboard sound in the bios, to save conflicts in windows etc.

yes most likely the onboard sound will disable itself once it detects the audigy. Im talking about first boot pc not been on before if it dont post then nothing is disabled by bios detecting anything.after the pc has booted the time for problems at post is over for now and at any point in the future if the pc wont boot he can just clear cmos and plug speakers into onboard again to find out why

Really?? how many PCs have you built that have done this???

Thats really quite irrelevant, a PC can develop a fault at any time where the post beep could be required

But why bother??? i mean, clearing cmos...... jesus christ......

Why not just buy a PC speaker for £5 and plug it onto the motherboard connector like its meant to be.....
