Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

That kind of sucks especially after all the good news we have had over the last few weeks. But I was half expecting something like this.

Looking at Media Boys NGTV headend thread it looks like roughly half have been done and seeing as they have been swapping cards since November does anyone else thing that they will not get the other half done in 10 weeks?

They don't need to switch off all of analogue to do those trials.

Can't say I was aware that Coventry had gone digital only, I seem to recollect it was one of those "tricky" areas to do and would be one of the areas left to last. Oh well, I should be sent to Coventry for the error!

I think Coventry was one of the first areas to go Digital only. And yes, you should be sent to Coventry.

Its just....disappointing, really. Was looking forward to Digital Cable HD Day on April 1st.....and now, this.

Why do you think its going to cost £110 for the new V HD box - its £49 for VHD box and £35 for installation thats £84.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

It is £75 if you already have a V+ and a V box. Most people would want to swap their second box (normally a V box on the XL Plus and VIP pack) which makes a total of £110 which is not a good deal for tjhose that take all services and pay the most.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Plus depending what what your current package call them Monday and say you want the New V HD box but can they send it via post -(Worth a Try, but I doubt they will)
or
Maybe try and upgrade your services and they maybe able todo a deal I joined and went for the VIP pack and asked I would only take it if I got FULL services and they have upgraded me to XXL 50MB BB.

Always worth a go and see what they can do - they always have deals

Sometimes upgrades might only cost you £4/5 per month but if they are able to through another deal i.e. free line rental for 6 mths you will end up evens at end of year.

Give it ago you just have to see what deal they have on at the moment.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

They post a timetable for upgrades and as is the fact of all project plans the odds are it moves to the right and people moan.

They don't post a timetable due to the vagaries of project planning and people moan.

They can't win!

So this is in the T&C which are not displayed.

I dont get the appeal anyway why spend that on a HD box that does not record.

You can get the V+HD off ebay for £20-£40 and there are a few new Samsung boxes.

You cannot buy a STB as they remain the property of Virgin Media and only boxes supplied by Virgin Media can be used and added to someones account

I suppose in one way its good and one way its bad.

Good - As the STB are fully covered and we dont have to pay for someone to come out to Repair or Replace (For the life of the contract)

Bad - STB are cheaper elsewhere (but I can see the point)

When I was with Sky I had two HD boxes - I bought the original at the old original £250 and then 2nd off ebay for £50.

Sky let you buy box's from wherever, all you have todo is call them to get the card registered to the STB but then Sky charge for call outs and repair/replacements.

---------- Post added at 21:48 ---------- Previous post was at 21:46 ----------

Anyway there goes by plan to upgrade my V Box to V+HD

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)

Interesting article here on Freeview HD. Covers Five HD decision not to launch, and the implications of this - that the BBC will launch a 2nd HD channel. Also says that Five is not exclusive to Sky:

If you read the prev posts you will see were talking about upgrading your V box to V HD box hence the high price.

Which you just plug the box in.

Already stated on a prev page/post.

I emailed Five Head of Press and confirmed the same thing.
