Re: *All* ntl Cap Discussion (part 4)
The only largish isp I know off that hasnt been suffering from issues with unlimited speeds is zen, so I would use their prices as a good base point.
512kbit 50:1 15.57
1mbit 50:1 25.52
2mbit 50:1 29.78
All packages £40 activation fee no free install rubbish. They price more at a viable level for what they provide and dont seem to worry so much about what everyone else is doing.

I can only speak for myself but from what I can make out theyve moved me back to 1mb after being on 512k for around 4-5 weeks, that said they never dropped my monthly charge so maybe I was lucky and have managed to somehow limbo under any long term limit.
If the caps have been dropped for all I'd like to thank ntl and say sorry towards a few members here if maybe once or twice I've got too personal towards peoples views here. All I can say is this is fine news hopefully for everyone Ive nothing against companys making money as long as the paying public get what they pay for.
Sure I'll get months where I do over use my connection other months I wont, thats why bringing the caps in over summer holidays when my 4 kids where off didnt help matters for me.
Ive never once faulted ntls allways on stable service and my family will be happy enough pottering about with 1mb unlimited. No doubt we'll be better on a stable connection like ntl at 1-3mb than on bulldog or likewise unstable upto 8mb which can be as low as 1mb.Fine news for 2006 all involved.Hope this lasts at least on smaller speed packages. If nothing else saves me getting 3 services from 3 different companys with my phone/cable/net being together.
peace out hopefully from this cap thread forever.

Cap,75 gig lol
i use my comp when i like sometimes i can easy downlaod 100gig other months 20gig if that,i think the cap should be over a 3 month period, and it should be no less than 500gig a month on a 10 meg im on 10 meg but my modem is only doing a 8 meg, like to know where the caps has come from. Korea, china, japan are on more bandwidth than me with no caps(i pay 37.99 a month) rip off britan comes to mind. Bandwidth should be cheaper than when we had a 56k like 4 years ago.Does ntl make money?yes they do,they just like to make more and more....

Four years ago NTL was providing me with 56k dial-up FREE of charge. To be cheaper than that NTL would have to pay me to take broadband.
When you consider broadband prices in different countries you have to make allowances for things like their average wage and the topography of the country. They may pay less per month than the UK in straight exchange rate conversion but have to work more hours to earn that amount. South Korea for example has the majority of its population living in high rise blocks in the six main cities. Very easy to wire up for broadband unlike the UK which is very spread out with thousands of miles of road to dig up to supply cable.

We'll see That price point isn't viable for anything other than a restricted or traffic shaped service, it's costing them a tenner and more a month to supply the service before you actually download anything. Add that to the multi-million pound a year costs of the BT interconnects to actually supply the bandwidth and you soon see why I'm rather skeptical of any provider's ability to provide at that price.
Check out E7Even's section on ADSLGuide for a hint of what happens when you sell too cheaply.

Really NTL you shoot yourself in the foot every F**kin day. And potentially such a good company. Increase the limit of the 10mb service to unlimited and the country will sign up in droves.
|
NTL are offering two choices. Fast speed, but capped. Slower speed but uncapped.
NTL do not have the facilities to offer 10 Meg Uncapped, and, at £34.99 per month, it would not be financially viable for them to do this.

But Telewest can & do offer 10mb unlimited for the same price.
They are a smaller company & have a smaller pool of customers & therefore revenue.
This is one question i have never seen a really satifactory answer too.
Come to that they also offer 4mb unlimited for £19.99 for the fist 3 months then i think it goes to £25

Would explain why they not ending in .00 or .99 then but proves my point even more what a viable price seems to be needed to not have issues.

I back stuart and ignition up here, it is stupid comparing to what the likes of telewest offer when it isnt viable. £24.99 for unlimited 2meg is a great deal for the consumer, at the low end people can compare this to plusnet's massively unviable bb+ package which has stupid levels of shaping applied to it and it was recently exposed on adslguide that their actual contention may be as high as 135:1 for them to sell at that price. http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showflat...b=5&o=0&fpart=
More viable prices are zen and even their prices are apperently subsidised heavily by their business customers, BT themselves have recently been sending out bill's to their customers. LLU isp's like ukonline and bulldog can price lower and be viable but that service is very heavily distance dependant.
