My argument regarding paying for the tivo boxes is this; the box remains the property of virgin media not yours. Imagine buying a tv from currys and just as you are leaving the salesman says "oh by-the-way the tv remains the property of currys and if you buy a new one in the future we have the right to ask for it back". It would be silly would`nt it? Yet that`s exactly what virgin are doing. Yes I know the box is useless without your subscription but perhaps virgin should be obligated to offer you all the free to air channels if you cancel your subs. Either that or stop charging for a box that is never yours OFFICALY. Incidently I have no problem with paying for installation of a tivo box, just the paying for the box. Until they stop charging for them I wont be getting tivo.

Re: Anyone received a offer from Virgin regarding the 500gb box

They charge for the activation of the box, not the box itself.

In regards to free to view, Why should virgin waste a tap port of someone who isn't paying? Why should they maintain a cable of someone who doesn't pay?

Completely different scenario. Currys don't repair the TV FOC when it's out of the standard 1 year warranty. VM repair the box for the lifetime of the box and replace it if required.

Re: Anyone received a offer from Virgin regarding the 500gb box

It's a bit unfair that existing multiroom customers can't take advantage of the free multiroom offer after taking out the TiVo service, £6.50 less would absorb the TiVo fee whilst reducing the bill by £3.50 as well.

Fully agree.

When will VM learn that there is an internet where people get to know what is going on, and that people don't like percieved unfair and unequal treatment?

Re: Anyone received a offer from Virgin regarding the 500gb box

Really it should be the other way round and existing multiroom customers should get it for free rather than new multiroom customers because existing ones have been paying the multiroom fee for a long time and having to continue to pay it and then someone who hasn't had multiroom before gets it for free, surely that isn't right?!

Re: Anyone received a offer from Virgin regarding the 500gb box

Got 500gb tivo installed on Thursday. Engineer asked if we wanted to keep v+ and he phoned up to check it would be free, he was told offer was no longer on. Received letter and leaflet next day with offer to keep v+ free, had usual nightmare phone call trying to get it back, but was initially told that the offer was only open to new customers! When asked how a new customer could keep there old V+ box, was told we couldn't have it because we have a loyalty discount. Very confusing. Leaflet not clear re: multiroom etc. Contemplating emailing CEO again!!!

£49.99 for `activation` is very expensive in that case but for me that`s just a con to get more money from customers. As for not allowing ex-customers the right to use the box to watch free-to-air channels because they`re no longer paying for a tap point is just tight. Also the cable is there whether your a paying customer or not.

I didn`t get the offer of free multi room when they sent me a letter and leaflet. The leaflet says I can have my v+ box moved to another room for free but the standard multi room still applied. I used to have multi room but had it disconected about a year ago because I was sick of paying the extra £5 (as it was then) for something I rarely used. The cable is still all there so there wouldn`t be any instillation to do there,in fact I could do it myself.

The point I was making was why should we have to buy a box that is never yours to keep! As for repairs, surely the cost is included in your subs? I remember as a kid my family had Rediffusion tv,don`t remember dad having to pay for the tv AND pay rent, yet when something went wrong the set was repaired` free of charge`.

If you have disconnected your services then that leaves a tap in the cabinet for a new customer so little point in letting you use it when you are not paying for it.

If you want free TV then by a Freeview box job done.
