Was a little surprised about my bill this month, it was a lot cheaper than I thought.
I only have broadband with Virgin Media and nothing else and my bill last month as I am on XXL 50mb was £48, logged in to my E-Bill just now and it said my total bill including VAT for September was only 27.97
Having upgraded from 20mb to 50mb today I have been testing out the Netgear WNR2000 that came with the install.
Straight out of the box the router upgraded the firmware to 1.2.0.8.
Everything seemed ok apart from slow loading config pages and the odd hiccup as the new hardware settles down.
I just trawled the netgear site and found firmware version 1.2.3.7 and that is way better than the supposed "latest" firmware that the router could find.
Loads more options have appeared (Wireless Repeater mode for one).
Just out of interest, does the engineer insist on connecting the VM-supplied wireless router? I ask as I have my 20-to-50Mb upgrade mid-october, and I do not intend to use the router supplied by VM - in fact, I don't even want it connected to my kit -even temporarily.
My existing set-up is exactly what I want, is more than capable of handling 50Mb (it's a gigabit ethernet wired set-up) and contains no wireless component (don't need one) that could pose a security risk (I have student neighbours who have tried to hack into wireless networks of mine in the past to freeload off my broadband).
