I expect many of them know a lot more than the majority of all the members on this forum so do not dismiss people that you have no idea about unless you have met them all personally, they are in the job they do because they are very good at what they do.

Also the majority of our uBRs are built by Cisco we use 7200, 100000 and 120000 series so a grounding in Cisco would be a good thing to have.

Never said they were bad at their job. Just saying your rant about them being all Cisco certified ISO building website admins is totally irrelevant.

Anyone can be all Cisco certified to the ears and still be absolutely clueless about a Netgear router. My linux ISO building skills are totally useless when it comes to troubleshooting a cable modem and just because I can run a website does not mean I have the faintest idea about how to support an internet connection.

Hi daveyrb,

I can confirm that we are looking to implement a bridged mode on all of our hubs. With regards to a release date for this firmware revision we are working towards a year quarter 2 release.

So that would put it sometime after March end.

Do you really think that they do not have test benches so they can test everything to within an inch of its life, then anything they find can be reported to the correct people.

If a certain issue raises its head they can emulate it with the same equipment just as any other support team can.

Once again putting words in my mouth I never said. Please stop with your zealous rants and read a post properly before responding.

I met the netgear guys that created the hub the other day in person and they are really switched on. They basically have a plan for anything we decide needs to be done .. they predict and have a fix ready for issues, before we find them .. I say issues, not faults, as they have been designed like this ..

They are very approachable and the test team VM side works very closely with them.

As for test benches, they have an awesome lab .. lol

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

Can't work VM out. Why oh why do they need to offer retention deals and have to put up with all the haggling? Why can't they offer a service at a fixed price for all customers and if some people don't like it tell em to **** off. It's not like VM need the customers lately as they've in the most killed the dodgy markets and a lot of the free-loaders are now having to pay for what they get.

It kinda ****** me off that I've been a loyal customer for many many years and never threatened to leave or failed to pay my way.. and when I want something from them I get passed from pillar to post with no result!

ok LOL Can someone tell me what the retention number is LOL.

So how do I approach them

What you posted makes the delay's seem VM's side rather than netgear's side.

I do agree and VM really need to nip this retention stuff in the bud but they wont. Cant help thinking that normal prices will be inflated to compensate for the lower price deals which probably hundreds of thousands have.

Have a Superhub and been charged for 30Mb?

If you are one of the unlucky ones who paid £30 to get the 30Mb upgrade perhaps this may interest you.

You will have already had to have the Superhub before you asked for the upgrade!

An update takes a lot of work between both sides and costs a lot of money, it make sense to make sure they are few and far between.

Re: [Update] ALL 20>30Mb upgrade discussion

I'm doing a Cisco course and trust me, it doesn't just cover Cisco stuff although of course their equipment is given a big push every now and then. It's all aspects of computer/network/OS maintenance and repair among other things. Yeah, routers have come up in some depth, too.

Just as a general thing, I think the right term would be compile their own Linux builds, then create an ISO. But more to the point I think it was mentioned more as a reference to the ability level of the techs in question, i.e. more competent than most.

I've heard Q2 2011 mentioned as well, so we're looking at what, start of April at the earliest for Super Hub bridge mode? I don't quite understand what takes a bunch of paid professionals so long to make one or two updated firmwares, especially when the (mostly) free DD-WRT firmware usually has two to five updates quarterly, and we're talking various different versions for a plethora of seperate chipsets most of which work incredibly well with only very minor bugs. Maybe they're not as good as VM thinks? After all it is hard to gauge the competence of a person who's very good at something you only have a passing knowledge of.

It's all idle speculation though...
