Interesting you should mention that, as they also remove hands from thieves (I remember driving past chop square).
Very low crime rate indeed, but then the police do walk round with uzi's (which we never minded as we knew they were there to protect us law abiding civilians)
Course the benifit they have is a strong religious background which is more of a deterant than any state punishment.
After all, you can hide from the police, but you can't hide from god/allah!

I guess the thought of someone getting satisfaction from an execution turns my stomach.
It just doesn't seem right to me.
If someone murdered a loved one of mine, I don't think I'd feel any different if they too were killed.
Actually I'd probably feel like they got let off.
Can you see where I'm coming from?
(course you can feel what you like )

Yes both are unacceptable, but hey at least if you send someone to prison for life they still have a chance to clear themselves and gain freedom or parole. I'd like to think that no family would want a rotten, burned/boiled alive corpse exhumed and presented to them with a little note saying....."oppps sorry he/she was innocent"

What about getting a lengthy sentence? If I see someone getting 10 years for armed robbery I also get satisfaction because the punishment is just. Simliar to the execution. In fact, it is a common feeling among people.

I wouldn't. I would be very happy.

Once again you're hitting on the judicial process, not capital punishment itself.

As opposed to imprisoning a man from age 25 to age 65 and then letting him out with a note "oppps sorry he/she was innocent."
Yes. Indeed. Why is the one more acceptable than the other? To me they are both completely unacceptable.

Re: Jury recommends death penalty for Wash. sniper
I don't think any human has the right to decide when another human dies, that goes for whoever perpetrated the crime and whoever is deciding punishment for it. As for your man jerrek deriving satisfaction from someone elses death ... I think he either needs a little psychological help or to move down to the deep south 'bible belt' where people will welcome his views.
edit: And, whoever called him a 'hypocritical' christian was actually pretty much on the mark, if he'd like to think back to a private message he sent me a while back (which I'm not going to post) then I'm pretty sure he'll agree.
