AOL setting

hi all need some help with AOL 2morrow i am going to my uncles to format his pc. how do i go about setting up AOL with out there crappy software what setting do i need apart from username and password.

As far as I'm aware AOL does generally rely on their "crappy" software, especially for email and connection to their own content.

If you connect via a router you dont need the aol browser. All you need is a modem router set up PPPoE instead of PPPoA It should default to correct and set the mtu up at 1420(not 100% on this) instead of default 1500.Then put user name and password in and Roberts your mums brother

at the moment they just have a adsl modem so would a adsl router be a better option if so is this any good

Only need a route if more than one PC is being connected, or if you want a hardware firewall, rather than just software on the PC. IF there is only one PC to be connected, the router ius something else to get in the way and create issues they might not need or understand.

Please ensure that the username entered is the master screen name ending with @aol.com
Please ensure that the password for this account is set to 8 letters or less (No uppercase letters, symbols or numbers)
If you are experiencing slow browsing please ensure that you have set the MTU value in your router to 1400.
